Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi, Iโ€™m ๐— ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—˜๐—น๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—ป – a therapist, social worker, and mental health advocate based in Australia. For over 15 years, Iโ€™ve supported people through grief, trauma, identity challenges, and life transitions. My approach is shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience, creating a space where your story can be heard and understood without judgement.

Before becoming a therapist, I was a young carer for my father and later experienced the profound grief of losing loved ones to suicide. Those experiences taught me what it means to feel unseen and overwhelmed – and they continue to shape how I hold space for others with empathy and care.

Iโ€™m an ๐—”๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ช๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ (๐—”๐—”๐—ฆ๐—ช) with cross-sector experience spanning mental health, suicide prevention, disability, and community services. My work is deeply informed by my own story – as a man from a ๐—–๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜† ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜‚๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜† ๐——๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ (๐—–๐—ฎ๐—Ÿ๐——) background, a former carer, and a ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ-๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป, shaped by my early life in Egypt and my journey rebuilding after migration to Australia.

I am also the ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—น๐˜‚๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ (๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—ซ๐˜€), an independent practice dedicated to embedding lived experience, cultural humility, and human dignity in therapy, Social Work and Peer supervision, training, consultancy, and system transformation. About

Michael Elwan is a therapist, social worker and mental health advocate based in Australia who has spent more than 15 years supporting people through grief, trauma, identity challenges and life transitions.

He brings professional training and personal lived experience to his work. As a young carer for his father and later a suicide-bereaved son, Michael learned what it feels like to be overlooked and overwhelmed – experiences that continue to shape the way he listens and holds space for others with empathy and care.

Michael is an Accredited Social Worker (AASW) with cross-sector experience across mental health, suicide prevention, disability and community services. He founded and directs Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs), an independent practice focused on embedding lived experience, cultural humility and human dignity into therapy, social work and peer supervision, training, consultancy and system transformation.

In 2025 Michael received the WA Mental Health Award – Lived Experience Impact & Inspiration, sponsored by the Mental Health Commission, recognising his contribution to culturally responsive, lived-experience-led practice and policy change. Later that year he was awarded the 2025 AASW National Excellence Award (Social Worker of the Year) and was a finalist for the Sir Ronald Wilson Leadership Award and the Barbara Hocking Memorial Award.

He also works as a public speaker, advisor and consultant, holding national and state leadership roles that help shape policy, governance and research translation. Michaelโ€™s professional focus is consistent – building systems that hold people, not harm them – and that principle guides every session he holds with clients.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people ask whether online therapy really helps. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, evidence shows that therapy delivered remotely can be as effective as traditional in-person sessions. One major benefit is flexibility – clients can meet with their therapist in the way that best suits them, whether by video call, phone, live chat or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule or to access support from a distance. All therapists involved are licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists at any time if they would like a different fit. Online therapy offers an accessible option for many people seeking support for everyday mental health and life challenges.
