John Darling

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

If you are looking for support for difficulties you are having, do feel able to contact me for a free consultation. I have over 20 years of experience working with people who are finding life difficult and by working with you we can work out what is going on in your life that is causing you to not have the life you want. I believe that we have all created ways of coping with life and often these ways of being don’t work anymore and are holding us back from the life we want.
We all create a comfort zone that we feel safe in and where life can have some certainty. Unfortunately, life isn’t very predictable and the more we want to do and the more we want others in our lives the more we need to work to expand this comfort zone which can be scary so we resist and stay doing what they have always done.
I think that the relationship between myself and my clients is key. It might be the first time you have had someone who can really listen to you and wants to understand who you are, and what you want from life.
For me, therapy is a collaborative, dynamic process where you the client can feel comfortable with and confident in me as the therapist, so that difficult subjects can be explored in safety. This means building a unique working partnership with each individual client.
In my 20 years of practice, I have met with hundreds of clients from all walks of life with a vast array of issues, all needing that safe relationship where they could share their deepest doubts and concerns. Together we have worked to bring understanding with compassion and curiosity we have worked to bring relief and a plan to untangle thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are no longer working.
Integrative in approach, I have continued to explore different therapeutic techniques to develop skills that I match to the specific needs and circumstances of each client. In my experience, one approach definitely does not ‘fit all’, so I will work with you to create a plan that will be tailored specifically you as an individual (or couple). You may only need a few sessions to get through a transient crisis, or you might be looking for something longer-term to tackle more deep-rooted issues. Whatever the focus, I try to keep consultations as free of jargon as possible.

I look forward to speaking you.

About

John Darling offers over 20 years of experience working with people who are finding life difficult, and he invites anyone seeking support to arrange a free consultation. He collaborates with clients to identify the patterns and coping strategies that are preventing them from living the life they want, recognising that many habitual ways of managing stress and emotion can outlast their usefulness.

He explains that people often settle into a comfort zone that feels safe and predictable, yet life’s uncertainty makes expanding that zone necessary when we want different relationships or new opportunities. That expansion can feel frightening, and it is common to resist change and continue familiar behaviours that no longer serve us.

For John, the therapeutic relationship is central. He aims to provide a space where someone can be truly heard and understood, and where their goals for life can be explored. Therapy with him is a collaborative, dynamic process focused on creating a working partnership so that difficult subjects can be examined with safety and trust.

Across his practice he has met hundreds of clients from varied backgrounds, all seeking a reliable relationship in which to share their concerns. Together with clients he works with curiosity and compassion to bring relief and to develop practical plans that untangle unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

John uses an integrative approach, drawing on a range of therapeutic techniques he has continued to study and apply over his career. He matches methods to each client’s particular needs, believing that no single approach fits everyone. Some people benefit from a few sessions to navigate a short-term crisis, while others choose longer-term work to address deeper issues. He aims to keep conversations free of jargon and tailored to the individual or couple he is supporting.

John Darling is based in the United Kingdom and welcomes enquiries from anyone who would like to start with a free consultation.

Is Online Therapy the Right Fit for Your Needs?

Many people ask whether online therapy can make a meaningful difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been found to be similarly effective to traditional in-person work for most people.

A key advantage is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to maintain continuity when circumstances change.

Therapists offering online work are licensed professionals, and it is possible to change therapists if a different fit is needed. For many people, online therapy provides an accessible and practical route to addressing everyday mental health and relationship challenges.
