Sarah Bennett is a counsellor who supports people with a wide range of concerns, including depression, bereavement, relationship difficulties, loss, divorce, anger, negative thinking, loneliness, eating disorders, miscarriage and abortion, anxiety management and abuse. Her counselling path began in Sydney, Australia in 2009 when she trained as a telephone counsellor for Lifeline, the national charity.
On returning to England she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and a University Certificate in Counselling at South Cheshire College, both validated by Manchester Metropolitan University. She is an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society and works within their framework for ethics and good practice.
Sarah undertook placement work at Reaseheath College near Nantwich, counselling young people, and has worked as a school counsellor at Brine Leas High School in Nantwich supporting middle school and sixth form students with issues such as coursework stress, bullying, peer difficulties and family matters. She has also worked and volunteered for The Dove Service, a bereavement charity based in Stoke-on-Trent.
These days Sarah sees clients solely in her private practice in Nantwich, with people either self-referring or arriving via signposting from GPs and other recommendations. She sees adults and teenagers or grown-up children at her practice and also offers telephone and video-call appointments, which are booked in the same way as face-to-face sessions.
Her training is rooted in the Person-Centred approach and she works adaptively with each individual. For some issues - including anxiety, depression or anger - she may incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, relaxation and breathing techniques, mindfulness and meditation. She also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Integrating Hypnotherapy with Psychotherapy - Level 7 from the Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy under Dr Jonathan Lloyd.
Sarah commits to continuing professional development, attending several workshops and training days each year to refine and extend her skills. She aims to offer practical strategies as suggestions within a person-centred framework rather than as prescriptive tasks, and has a particular interest in Anxiety Management, helping clients learn techniques to manage their anxiety.
Outside of counselling she enjoys time with close friends and family. She has two grown-up children and a 12 year old dog called Leo, who is a familiar companion and may keep her company in the counselling room if allowed. “I believe in the client’s ability to find their answers and inner peace as an outcome of our work together.”
Many people ask whether online therapy can truly make a difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main advantages is flexibility - you can meet with a therapist in the format that fits your life, whether that is a video call, a phone session, live chat or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to arrange appointments around work, family and other commitments.
Those offering online therapy are licensed professionals, and if you decide another therapist would be a better fit you can change at any time. Online work can be an accessible way to begin or continue therapeutic support while keeping the same standards of professional care as face-to-face counselling.
