Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hi, my name is Katy!
Are you struggling in communicating with one or several members of your family? Are you having a hard time interacting with your teenager? Or do you have other life struggles that need a helping hand?
For 9 years I have been working with families & individuals to improve their lives and interactions with each other. While I often do see the whole family, being a trained Family Therapist, I also enjoy the opportunities to meet with individual members of the family and find out how their needs are not getting met. Oftentimes individuals don’t feel as though they are being listened to in their families or in relationships. I specifically have expertise to offer parents who are struggling with the right approach to parenting and am eager to offer empathetic solutions. With others, I am comfortable working on communication skills and how to nurture difficult relationships. When I meet with individuals I have an empathetic ear, a warm approach and am available to problem solve as needed.
I have worked with clients using Family Therapy, Play Therapy, Mindfulness, CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic therapies, and Internal Family Systems. Because of my experience with family therapy, I am used to thinking quickly on my feet and am not shy about using out-of-the-box approaches to solve complex issues. I won’t give up until we have worked through a resolution together!
I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in New York and have been working in outpatient Community Mental Health for 8 years. I look forward to serving you through online counseling.

Katharine “Katy” Nicholson is a licensed marriage and family therapist in New York with 10 years of clinical experience working with individuals and families. She focuses on improving communication, resolving family conflicts, and supporting parents who are seeking clearer, more effective approaches to raising children.
Trained in family therapy, she commonly sees whole families but also values meeting with individual members to identify unmet needs and provide focused support. Katy brings a warm, empathetic presence and a practical, problem-solving orientation when helping clients strengthen difficult relationships or learn new communication skills.
Her clinical work draws on a range of approaches, including family therapy, play therapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic methods, and Internal Family Systems. Accustomed to thinking quickly and using creative techniques when needed, she works collaboratively and persistently with clients until they reach meaningful resolutions.
Prior to offering online counseling, Katy spent eight years working in outpatient community mental health settings. She welcomes the opportunity to support clients through virtual sessions and to tailor treatment to each person or family she serves.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, research and clinical experience indicate that online therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person care.
One major benefit is convenience. Clients can connect in whatever format fits their needs and schedule – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to maintain continuity of care even with a busy life.
Sessions are provided by licensed professionals and therapists, and clients are free to request a different clinician at any time if they are seeking a different fit. Online therapy makes evidence-based support more accessible while preserving the flexible options many people need to engage in regular treatment.
