Dr. George Baldwin

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi! I’m a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have published peer-reviewed research. I completed my Clinical Psychology doctorate at the University of East Anglia (UEA) Medical School and have experience in the assessment, formulation and treatment of complex psychological difficulties with individuals, couples, families and groups, in line with guidance from the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). In addition to my own NHS and private clinical practice, I currently provide clinical supervision to a number of psychological professionals.

Over the last six years, I have worked in primary and secondary care community mental health services with children and adults, as well as psychiatric inpatient units (forensics, adult acute, older adult acute and eating disorders), physical health clinics (paediatrics, diabetes and chronic pain) and specialist learning disability and fostering services. I have worked with clients across the lifespan, treating psychological difficulties including: anxiety, panic, depression, bipolar, psychotic depression, schizophrenia, delusional disorder, hoarding, OCD, disordered eating, emotional dysregulation, personality disorders, specific phobias and trauma (including physical, domestic, sexual, psychological and financial abuse, neglect and bereavement). I am familiar with adapting my approach within the context of neurodiversity including Autism spectrum conditions, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), attention deficit disorder (ADD) and Dyslexia.

I can enable meaningful change when multiple diagnoses may be affecting someone’s daily life. I enjoy the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, both individually and with couples/families, or in small groups. My favourite modalities are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Systemic therapy, however I am also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focussed Therapy (SFT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Dialetical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) skills.

The approach I try to take is warm, non-judgmental and always tailored to the client(s). Over the course of regular 45 minute sessions, I will initially undertake an assessment of relevant information and typically then develop a visual ‘formulation’ with you at a pace you feel comfortable with (this can take many forms depending on the presenting problem(s), whether it is individual, couple or family work and which therapeutic model is being used). Normally, the formulation highlights patterns in thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships, within the context of past and current experiences, and from this, we can agree on what to focus on. This allows a parameter from which to measure how therapy is going and regular sessions can focus on noticing cognitive, behavioural and relational patterns, developing the formulation over time in relation to the agreed purpose of the therapy. Treatment plans may include practising and/or documenting alternative thoughts or behaviours, to promote change outside of the sessions.

Thanks for reading and I hope to start working with you soon!

About

Dr. George Baldwin is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and has published peer-reviewed research. He completed his Clinical Psychology doctorate at the University of East Anglia (UEA) Medical School and applies evidence-informed practice in assessment, formulation and treatment of complex psychological difficulties for individuals, couples, families and small groups, consistent with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.

Across six years of clinical work in both NHS and private practice, Dr. Baldwin has provided services in primary and secondary community mental health settings for children and adults, psychiatric inpatient units including forensics, adult acute, older adult acute and eating disorder wards, physical health clinics such as paediatrics, diabetes and chronic pain, and specialist learning disability and fostering services. He also offers clinical supervision to other psychological professionals.

He has experience working with people across the lifespan, addressing difficulties including anxiety and panic, depression and bipolar disorder, psychotic depression, schizophrenia and delusional disorder, hoarding, OCD, disordered eating, emotional dysregulation, personality disorders, specific phobias and trauma. Trauma work has included responses to physical, domestic, sexual, psychological and financial abuse, neglect and bereavement. Dr. Baldwin is familiar with adapting therapeutic approaches for neurodiversity, including autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, ADD and dyslexia.

Dr. Baldwin aims to enable meaningful change where multiple diagnoses may be affecting day-to-day life. He works with clients individually, with couples and families, and in small group formats. His preferred interventions are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Systemic therapy, and he is also trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) skills.

His working style is warm, non-judgmental and tailored to each client or family. Over regular 45 minute sessions he begins with an assessment and typically develops a visual ‘formulation’ with the person or people involved at a pace that feels comfortable. The formulation normally highlights patterns in thoughts, feelings, behaviours and relationships within the context of past and current experiences, and from that shared understanding a focus for therapy is agreed. Progress can then be tracked against that formulation while sessions explore cognitive, behavioural and relational patterns and refine the formulation in line with the therapy goals. Treatment plans often include practising or recording alternative thoughts and behaviours to support change outside sessions.

Thanks for reading and he looks forward to the possibility of working with you soon.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people ask whether talking to a therapist online can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or coping with life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care for most cases. A major benefit is flexibility – clients can choose the mode of contact that suits them best, whether that is video appointments, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule and to maintain continuity of care. Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and individuals may switch therapists at any time if they prefer a different fit. For many people, remote sessions offer a practical and effective way to engage with therapy while accessing qualified therapists from their own location.
