Sophie Ibekwem

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

By seeking therapy, you have made the first step to empowering yourself to overcome what may be worrying you. I am able to offer you a confidential, warm and safe space where you are free to speak your truth and I will listen with empathy and compassion.

“I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become”, Carl Jung believed everyone strived to be the best version of themselves and as a counsellor, I wholeheartedly believe the same. If you have trouble with setting boundaries and self care, I can help you learn to prioritise yourself and look forward to a more focused future.

I am a Person-Centred counsellor which means I allow my clients to be themselves and to focus on goals that work for them without the fear of judgement. I specialise in difficult childhoods, low self esteem, confidence building and recovering from narcissistic/domestic abuse.

I understand how it feels to sit in judgement, confusion and shame and I am happy to work with you to lessen these feelings. I believe that everyone is the expert on themselves and therefore I don’t advise but celebrate in the individuality of every single one of my clients, we will work together to achieve an outcome that works for you.

I am licensed in the UK with 6 years experience in the field. I have worked with clients dealing with stress, anxiety, building motivation and self esteem, confidence, unravelling depression & coping with life changes. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity and compassion. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage and I am here to support you in that process.

I am currently undertaking further training in Transactional Analysis/Psychoanalytical Theory and am a student member of the UK Association for Transactional Analysis. I find this theory really helpful when working with clients and working out patterns in relationships with others.

About

Sophie Ibekwem welcomes people who have taken the first step towards change and offers a confidential, warm and safe space where they can speak honestly and be heard with empathy and compassion.

She echoes Carl Jung’s idea that people are defined by what they choose to become – "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become" – and works with clients to move toward a more focused and hopeful future. When setting boundaries and practising self-care feels difficult, Sophie supports clients in prioritising themselves and building practical skills for change.

As a Person-Centred counsellor, Sophie creates an accepting, non-judgemental environment that allows individuals to be themselves and pursue goals that fit their life. She specialises in difficult childhoods, low self-esteem, confidence building and recovery from narcissistic or domestic abuse.

Sophie understands how judgement, confusion and shame can affect people and is committed to helping reduce these feelings. She approaches each person as the expert on their own life, celebrating individuality and collaborating with clients to find outcomes that work for them.

Licensed in the United Kingdom, Sophie has 6 years of experience working with stress, anxiety, motivation and self-esteem, confidence, depression and coping with life changes. She treats everyone with respect, sensitivity and compassion, tailoring conversations and treatment plans to meet each person’s specific needs.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

A major benefit is flexibility – individuals can choose the mode of contact that suits them best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. That adaptability makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to maintain continuity of care.

Each therapist involved is a licensed professional, and people may change therapists if they want a different fit. Online therapy can provide a practical, effective route to support for many everyday mental health concerns while offering multiple ways to connect with a trained therapist.
