Shaun Gordon

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hello, my name is Shaun and I’m from Colchester in the UK. I am a fully qualified person-centred counsellor and work with adults of all ages and backgrounds. I understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help – so I want to make doing so, as stress free for you as I can.

I will aim to meet you with genuine warmth and acceptance in a confidential and safe space. I will work with you in partnership and in ways that are meaningful toward the directions and goals that you have for therapy. During our time together, I will regularly ask you to feedback to me how you are experiencing counselling, so that I can adjust and tailor the work to ensure I am meeting your expectations and goals.

I work as a counsellor in the voluntary and private sectors, with a range of clients, experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, low self esteem and the obsessive compulsive disorders. I have additionally worked with those going through bereavement, life transitions, relationship/interpersonal issues, self harm and with clients that are suicidal.

I have worked for West Sussex Mind as a Mental Health Worker in the crisis prevention service and currently work with Mid and North East Essex Mind. Additionally, I have been group facilitator for Brighton’s OCD, BDD & Hoarding Disorder Support Group since 2014.

I have been involved with SWLSTG NHS Mental Health Trust since 2015, collaborating with the Adult National and Specialist Service for treatment resistant OCD/BDD – my role being in the design and facilitation of recovery groups for hospital in-patients. My experience has taught me that behind psychological theories of distress are people, and as my experience with Service Users has grown, I have realised the importance of relating to each person in their uniqueness in whatever form that may arrive – this explains a little of how I work, and what was behind my desire to become a person-centred counsellor.

I am passionate about mental health provision and recovery and have spoken on these subjects in the media, including for ITN, regional news, a national conference and in collaboration with Public Health England for Every Mind Matters.

I have an FdSc in person-centred counselling with Brighton University and am currently studying a BSc in the same subject. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Is Online Therapy the Right Fit for Your Needs?

Many people ask whether online therapy can genuinely help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional face-to-face work for most people.

One major benefit is flexibility – clients can choose the mode of contact that best suits them, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This adaptability often makes it simpler to include therapy in a busy life.

Therapists offering online services are licensed professionals, and if a different fit is needed it is possible to switch therapists at any time.
