Hello and a warm welcome to you.
I’m Jo, a counselling therapist (MBACP) based in the U.K.
Often finding the right therapist can be harder than starting therapy. I work collaboratively with you, bridging gaps & bringing understanding. Creating a supportive environment, where you feel accepted and able to explore your thoughts & feelings.
My role is to be with you with genuine congruence and empathy. I explain (jargon free!) and answer questions that come up along the way helping to keep my clients at the centre of their process.
I have a varied background in private and public sectors with my interest and expertise being work related stress, family trauma, burnout, chronic conditions and the lack of representation and spaces for intersectional individuals. It can be hard enough talking about your experiences without having to reiterate and break down differences. I bring understanding, not assumptions to your sessions.
I also work with clients who need help with general mental health concerns; offering both short and long-term sessions dependent on your needs. Do have a look at the areas I work with on my profile to see if I can help.
Although I have an understanding of various therapeutic processes and may draw from them in my work; I am Person Centered. What is Person Centered? Well, in a nutshell it’s therapy that puts emphasis on your experience and given the right therapeutic environment, capacity for healing.
Carl Rogers (American Psychologist, founder of Person Centered Theory) is quoted to have said:
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
