Suzanne Walker is a licensed clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina with 38 years of clinical experience. She earned an M.S. in Counseling Psychology in 1984 and has spent many years both practicing as a clinician and serving as a clinical supervisor.
Her clinical work addresses a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, addictions, trauma and abuse, depression, ADHD, LGBT-related issues, relationship difficulties, family conflict, grief, intimacy-related concerns, eating and sleeping disorders, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, coping with life changes, coaching, and compassion fatigue. Suzanne works across the lifespan with adults, families, adolescents, and children and has experience with many cultures and lifestyles.
Suzanne emphasizes the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for change. She believes a strong partnership between client and provider helps people process pain, stress, and trauma, discover available choices, and take courageous first steps toward healing and growth. Her approach is person-centered, offering unconditional positive regard and an attitude free of judgment.
Having lived in many places and worked both in the local civilian community and as a Department of Defense provider for the U.S. military, Suzanne also brings decades of perspective as a military family member. That background informs her understanding of military life and its unique stresses.
Her practice blends holistic and integrated approaches. Suzanne listens, asks questions, and offers insights so that together she and the client can develop an individualized plan of care. She has training in multiple therapeutic modalities and will work with clients to select methods that best meet their needs - for example, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and reality therapy. She is licensed to practice as a clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina, reflecting her professional qualification to provide therapy (NC LCMHC 2238).
