Sonia Dugay

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi, I am a registered Counsellor in the South of UK. I have worked with many different clients having spent some time in a support centre for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. Survivors of such a trauma can bring many different issues to the Counselling space such as Anxiety, Anger management issues, Low Self Esteem, Intimacy Difficulties, Eating Disorders, Self Harm, Relationship problems and these are some of the issues that I have worked with predominantly.
I have been working in Private Practice more recently and during the lockdown which brought different types of mental health problems to people. Some of whom were young adults, with issues such as Loneliness, Anxiety and Career changes. Others were in a mid life crisis, struggling with relationship issues or low confidence difficulties.

I have also counselled people with issues surrounding DNA surprises.

Some of these problems are very difficult to talk about and taking the first step is often hard to do. However, talking about your troubles and finding yourself listened to by someone who is not going to judge is a wonderful feeling. I can offer you a space to offload your troubles and together we can try to find a solution so that you can make your way into the future with a bit more hope. My approach is to listen to the client and hear what you need instead of telling you what you should do; a Person Centred Theory which believes that the client has the answer. The way forward is to draw the answers from you by listening carefully to the ‘inner you’ .
I also use a psycohdynamic theory which goes a bit deeper into your life in order to explain why some of your issues may exist because inside every adult is a child who had experiences that may still need addressing.

On a personal note I believe strongly that any form of exercise helps enormously with mental health and for me a brisk walk or dance class helps put me back on my feet if life gets tough.
My up bringing was basically Christian but not very deep at all and I don’t consider myself to be of any particular religion now. However, I am interested in all religions and believe myself to be open to understanding other cultures. I respect the fact that religion is very important to many people in all sorts of different ways –good and bad.
I am friendly, warm and interested in others. I look forward to meeting you.

About

Sonia Dugay is a registered Counsellor practising in the south of the United Kingdom. She has worked with a wide range of people, including a period spent at a support centre for survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

Many survivors of such trauma bring concerns into the counselling room that include anxiety, anger management difficulties, low self-esteem, intimacy problems, eating disorders, self-harm and relationship challenges – these have been central to much of her work.

More recently Sonia has been working in private practice. During the lockdown she supported clients presenting with different kinds of distress: some were young adults struggling with loneliness, anxiety and career changes, while others faced mid life crises, relationship difficulties or low confidence.

She has also provided counselling to people dealing with issues arising from DNA surprises.

Sonia recognises that some topics are hard to talk about, and she aims to offer a non-judgemental space where a person can be heard and begin to offload worries. Her practice favours listening to what the client needs rather than telling them what to do, following a person-centred approach that trusts the client to find their own answers.

She also draws on psychodynamic theory to look more deeply at how earlier life experiences – the child within the adult – may help explain current difficulties.

On a personal note, Sonia believes exercise supports mental wellbeing; a brisk walk or a dance class helps her when life feels difficult. Raised in a broadly Christian home but not deeply religious, she does not consider herself to follow any particular religion now, while remaining interested in other faiths and open to understanding different cultures. She respects that religion matters to many people in varied ways.

Sonia is warm, friendly and genuinely interested in others, and she looks forward to meeting new clients.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether remote therapy can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or life transitions, research and practice indicate that online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person work.

One major advantage is flexibility. Clients can choose the contact method that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.

Sessions are delivered by licensed professionals and, if a different therapeutic fit is wanted, clients can change therapists at any time.
