Sharon Anderson is a dual-national Black British psychotherapist with wide international training and practice experience. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), registered to practise in the United Kingdom, and is an associate counselling psychologist with an MSc, licensed to practise in Jamaica and the Caribbean (Jampsych).
This blend of British and Caribbean registration and international training informs her understanding of cross-cultural and multicultural issues, and equips her to support local and international diaspora as well as people who feel displaced.
She holds clinical and pastoral training in the UK and offers spiritual counselling for clients who would like a spiritual perspective included in their work.
With 24 years of experience, Sharon has worked across clinical services, universities, schools, churches and community settings. She has supported clients of all ages with concerns such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, parenting problems, spiritual concerns, career challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. She has also worked with many people who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), trauma, migration and relocation loss.
Her therapeutic style is warm, interactive and accepting, and she works at each person’s pace. Sharon practises from a person-centred foundation and uses an eclectic approach, drawing on multiple modalities and techniques to meet each client’s specific needs. At a client’s request she may use creative therapy approaches, including therapeutic play and play therapy for which she has training in the UK and the USA.
Sharon is committed to tailoring dialogue and treatment plans to meet people where they are. She recognises that reaching out for therapy is a courageous first step and is willing to walk alongside clients on their journey toward holistic healing.
Many people wonder whether virtual sessions can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.
One of the main benefits is convenience. Clients can choose the mode of connection that suits them best - video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Each therapist involved is a licensed professional, and clients are free to change therapists at any time if they feel a different fit would be better. Online therapy therefore offers a flexible, accessible way to receive professional support for many everyday mental health and relationship concerns.
