Want to stop feeling so anxious?
Welcome and thank you for clicking onto my profile. I understand that looking for, and reaching out to a counsellor can be daunting and you may be a little apprehensive.
Counselling is not about me giving you advice, rather me working with you to find your own answers. Therefore, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is of upper-most importance.
I will provide you with a comfortable, safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Your journey of self-discovery could lead you to the empowerment of being able to make any necessary changes.
About Me
Prior to training as a Counsellor I worked for many years with the Police (and since qualifying as a Counsellor I work a lot with emergency services employees). Alongside this, my hobby and interest was in health and fitness. I worked in health clubs and taught fitness classes. I focused on physical health and gained a real passion for well-being and helping people. From here, I began incorporating mental well-being, as I began to believe that the mind and body works together. It led me to starting my counselling training in 2010 and so I genuinely come from a holistic approach. My core training was gained at The University of Hull and Leeds Beckett University. Since then I have progressed through the levels. I place an emphasis on Continual Professional Development and so I attend regular training courses and workshops to update my knowledge and skills.
Experience
I have experience of working with clients on issues such as Loss and Bereavement at Cruse Bereavement Care and have worked with Anxiety and Depression on an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) NHS initiative.
I am an Affiliate Counsellor for several Employee Assistance Programme Providers (EAP’s) of which I work with issues of Work Related Stress.
In 2022 I have been audited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and passed. This means that they check to see that I am working ethically and meet their high standard which safeguards you as a client.
I am also a BACP ACCREDITED Counsellor. BACP accreditation schemes aim to recognise the achievement of high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy.
As well as my work with BetterHelp, I work a lot with self-referral private clients on a wide range of issues in my own private practice (A New Horizon).
How I Work
I am currently working over the Telephone/Video on the Betterhelp platform. I also offer Live Chat.
I work on a one-to-one basis in a person-centred way. This means that I offer the conditions of congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I work from an integrative perspective which means that I use tools from other theoretical approaches in which ever way suits you, as an individual client, the best as I believe that people are unique and therefore there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach.
I can offer Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) looking at your negative, automatic thoughts and the impact on your feelings and behaviours. We can explore coping strategies, that work for you, for the short term and look at ways for you to live more positively.
I also work with clients long term exploring and addressing the root cause of the issue(s). This can be open ended (not time limited).
Are you ready to make a change?
If you have an issue that is holding you back from living your life to the full then please do not hesitate get in touch. I value helping people and have a passion for supporting clients through their problems. Having someone, that is not a family member, to walk alongside you, can help.

Kelly Richardson is a counsellor based in the United Kingdom with 11 years of clinical experience supporting people with stress, anxiety, grief, career concerns, depression, coping with life changes, relationship and family issues, parenting, anger, and self-esteem. She is a female, older, non-religious therapist who brings a calm, person-centred approach to one-to-one work.
Before training in counselling she worked for many years with the Police, and since qualifying she frequently supports emergency services employees. Kelly also has a background in health and fitness, having worked in health clubs and taught fitness classes, which helped shape her belief that mental and physical wellbeing are linked. She began formal counselling training in 2010 and completed core training at The University of Hull and Leeds Beckett University.
Kelly describes her practice as integrative and person-centred – she aims to provide congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard so clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a comfortable, safe and confidential space. She uses tools from different therapeutic approaches to suit each client, and she can offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to examine automatic negative thoughts and develop practical coping strategies for short-term relief, as well as longer-term work that explores and addresses deeper causes.
Her experience includes supporting people affected by loss and bereavement with Cruse Bereavement Care, and working with anxiety and depression through an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) NHS initiative. Kelly is an Affiliate Counsellor for several Employee Assistance Programme providers, working with issues such as work-related stress, and she carries out regular continuing professional development through courses and workshops to keep her skills current.
In 2022 she was audited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and passed that audit. She is also a BACP ACCREDITED Counsellor – an accreditation that recognises high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy. Kelly works with private self-referral clients in her practice, A New Horizon, and also provides therapy via telephone, video and live chat through online services.
Kelly emphasises that counselling is not about giving direct advice but about working collaboratively so clients can find their own answers and build resilience. If an issue is holding someone back from living fully, she invites them to get in touch to explore whether therapy would help.
Many people wonder whether remote counselling can really help. For a range of common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and life changes – online therapy has been found to be as effective as traditional face-to-face work for most people.
One key advantage is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that fits their routine and comfort level – by video call, telephone session, live chat or in-app messaging – which can make it easier to maintain regular appointments alongside work, family and other commitments.
All therapists are licensed professionals, and if the match does not feel right it is possible to switch to another therapist. Online therapy offers a practical route to access professional support while keeping the focus on consistent, evidence-informed care that suits each individual’s needs.
