Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hi, I am Joel Burns, a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor based in the UK with 5 years’ professional counselling experience. I have a creative and compassionate style, I work with both current life problems as well as longer-term issues. I offer a warm sacred space to help with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, addiction, loss and grief, family, personal and professional issues you struggle to unravel on your own. Having a safe confidential space to feel heard can bring about great relief when experiencing difficulties.
Past life experiences and relationships shape us in ways we may not be aware of, past patterns and behaviours may become counterproductive.
Shining a light on the unconscious can help you to gain understanding and self-awareness, helping you to make the changes you want. I have a calm, non-judgemental and compassionate approach with a mindfulness to work at your pace.
Originally from USA, I have worked and studied in several countries and am passionate about life in a multi-cultural society. My intention is to provide counselling for all who seek the support, regardless of race, caste, culture, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, sexuality, gender, disability, age, or any other diversity and difference. I am a creative, lifelong learner and motivated personality, my professional background is in Counselling, Sport, Education, and Social Work. I believe in a holistic approach to life’s challenges including personal growth, self-expression, and spirituality. Through my experience of working with thousands of adults, children, and families, I have been fortunate that clients have shared their deepest feelings with me, it is through connecting to their emotional experiences that I also stay rooted in my own sense of awareness and self. Counsellors can only effectively work with clients in an authentic way if they are also capable of navigating through life’s challenges with a healthy perspective. It is my opinion that until a therapist has worked on their own personal growth, only then can they be truly effective in guiding clients towards positive choices and full potential.
My counselling approach is educative and supportive. I aim to help children, adolescents, adults and families to use their resources and skills to support in finding one’s passions. My goal in counselling is to educate clients on their treatment options, refer to appropriate sources, help them to know what to expect and deal with difficulties appropriately. The goal for each counselling session is to teach coping skills, build awareness, insight, motivation, problem solving, self-learning and encourage autonomy. Starting the counselling journey can be a daunting development, at times it can be challenging to question ourselves or to discover why we feel or behave the way we do. There maybe times when we feel it is too difficult to really be truly honest with ourselves or allow ourselves to be vulnerable, this is normal and all part of the self healing process. My aim is to empower clients through helping to create a safe space to build personal knowledge and inner growth. I work in an integrative way, drawing elements of person-centred theory, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and cognitive behaviour (CBT) and positive psychology integrated in a way that meets your unique needs. Learning how to embrace imperfections while remaining open to self- improvement presents great opportunities for meaningful change and self-love. I am of the belief that everyone is a continuous, ever-changing work in progress, and I feel that the connections and rapport we build together is paramount to therapeutic success. I hope to be an agent for change for my clients by assisting them in the process of discovery and acceptance of self. I offer a collaborativeand safe therapeutic relationship putting you at the centre of your own therapy.

Joel Burns is a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor based in the United Kingdom with 5 years of professional counselling experience. He brings a creative and compassionate style to his work, supporting both immediate life difficulties and longer-term issues.
Joel offers a warm, sacred space to help with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, addiction, loss and grief, as well as family, personal and professional matters that can be hard to unravel alone. He believes that having a safe, confidential setting where a person can be heard often brings significant relief during times of struggle.
Past life experiences and relationships shape people in ways they may not always recognise, and unhelpful patterns can develop over time. Joel aims to illuminate unconscious patterns to increase understanding and self-awareness, enabling clients to make the changes they seek. He works with a calm, non-judgemental and compassionate manner and uses mindfulness to work at each client’s pace.
Originally from the USA, he has worked and studied in several countries and is passionate about life in a multi-cultural society. Joel intends to provide counselling to anyone who seeks support, regardless of race, caste, culture, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, sexuality, gender, disability, age or other differences. He describes himself as a creative, lifelong learner with a professional background in Counselling, Sport, Education and Social Work.
Through extensive experience working with thousands of adults, children and families, Joel has maintained an emphasis on emotional connection and self-awareness. He holds the view that therapists are most effective when they have engaged in their own personal growth, and he brings that perspective into his practice.
Joel’s approach to counselling is both educative and supportive. He works with children, adolescents, adults and families to draw on their existing resources and skills, and to explore personal passions. He aims to inform clients about treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and help people know what to expect as they address difficulties.
Each session focuses on building coping skills, increasing awareness and insight, fostering motivation, improving problem solving, encouraging self-learning and promoting autonomy. Joel recognises that beginning therapy can feel daunting and that it is normal to find vulnerability challenging; he supports clients through these steps as part of the self-healing process.
He practises in an integrative way, drawing on person-centred theory, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and positive psychology, woven together to meet individual needs. Joel believes that accepting imperfections while staying open to growth creates opportunities for meaningful change and self-compassion. He values the connection and rapport built in therapy and aims to be an agent for change by assisting clients in discovery and acceptance of self, offering a collaborative and safe therapeutic relationship that places the client at the centre of their therapy.
Many people ask whether online therapy truly helps. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or navigating life changes, online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
A major benefit is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This flexibility often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
Therapists offering online sessions are licensed professionals, and clients can choose to switch therapists at any time if they want a different fit.
