Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I’ve been a practicing counsellor since 2008. I have a vast array of experiences supporting people to work through family of origin wounds, relationship challenges, adult trauma, childhood trauma, addictions, loss and grief, mental health difficulties, stress related issues. I use the lessons learnt from clients to best inform my approach with each individual. I take a compassionate inquiry approach seeking to understand (and help a client understand) why a person is where they are in their life, where their stress and/or distress is coming from, and then together with them, set about helping them get onto – or back onto the path they want to be on, thus helping people be the person they want to be and live the kind of life they want to live, with their values, and their boundaries. I begin with a Person Centred Holistic approach where context is key and use elements of ACT, DBT, CBT, Gottman couples therapy and Family therapy depending on the client need. I also have extensive experience with loss and grief – specifically around suicide and suicide intervention. I really enjoy working with men, helping men have better, more fulfilling relationships, work and lives. Outside the counselling room. I’m a dad to 2 and husband to 1. I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, I’m a sport enthusiast, an experienced runner and musician and these form a big part of my self-care strategy as well as help inform my work with clients.

Jacob Mangelsdorf has been a practising counsellor since 2008 and brings 18 years of clinical experience to his work in Australia. He specialises in supporting people with stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship and family difficulties, trauma and abuse, loss and grief, and other mental health and stress-related issues.
He adopts a compassionate inquiry stance, aiming to help clients understand why they are where they are and to identify the sources of their stress or distress. Using insights gathered from many clients over the years, he collaborates with individuals to set a course – or return to a path – that aligns with their values, boundaries and the life they want to live.
Jacob begins from a person-centred, holistic perspective where context is central, and he integrates elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Gottman couples therapy and family therapy as client needs dictate. He also has extensive experience supporting people through loss and grief, including work related to suicide and suicide intervention.
He particularly enjoys working with men to foster more satisfying relationships, work and personal lives. Outside the counselling room he is a father of two and a husband, and he values time with family and friends. A sport enthusiast, experienced runner and musician, Jacob uses these interests as important components of his self-care and as sources of insight that inform his therapeutic work.
Many people ask whether therapy delivered online can produce real results. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or managing life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be equally effective as traditional in-person sessions for most common issues.
A major benefit is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to maintain consistency over time.
All therapists involved are licensed professionals, and individuals may change therapists at any time if they want a different fit. For many people, online options provide an accessible, practical route to working with a therapist while addressing everyday challenges and longer-term concerns.
