Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hi
My name is Diane I have more than 30+ years of experience doing therapy. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient settings as well as family service agencies and private practice. My approach is client centered with a strong focus on solution oriented short term therapy. I am a direct communicator, but use humor often to help clarify issues and to create an intervention that is easier to remember for my clients. Life sometimes is very hard, it is our reaction to it that makes it harder or easier. We can grow and learn to make our decisions based on our values and interests so that we are not fighting with ourself over the decisions that were always ours to make. We all make choices that have far ranging consequences for ourself and others- let us make them after a careful, honest self examination- therapy can provide a safe place for this self examination. .
I have an interest in providing therapy and support for caregivers, clients with new medical challenges and families dealing with end of life issues.
I have specialized in grief and loss as well as anxiety and depression.
I am a direct communicator and have been able to ” speak truth to power” so one of my subset of experiences is coaching executives who have lost their jobs and are going through emotionally challenging times.
I am experienced at counseling cross cultural and interfaith families both at the pre-marital stage and further along in the marriage. I also have counseling experience ( as an ally) with GLBTQ+ counseling, coming out, managing the family disclosure and acceptance and straight spouse issues as well.
Make no mistake, people need to work in therapy. A good therapist does not provide a NEST ( never ending supportive therapy) but rather a launching point.
So if you are ready to launch ……contact me

Diane McClain has built a long career in social work, offering 46 years of clinical experience across inpatient and outpatient settings, family service agencies, and private practice in Illinois. She practices from a client-centered, solution-oriented perspective that emphasizes short-term therapeutic interventions and clear, direct communication. As a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois, her state credential (IL LCSW 149.013411) reflects formal qualification and many years of practice in the field.
Her approach balances straightforward feedback with a frequent use of humor to clarify issues and create memorable interventions. Diane believes that life presents difficult circumstances, and it is often our response to those events that determines how manageable they feel. Therapy, in her view, offers a safe place for honest self-examination so people can make decisions that align with their values and interests rather than remaining in internal conflict.
She has a particular interest in supporting caregivers, individuals facing new medical challenges, and families navigating end-of-life concerns. Diane has specialized experience treating grief and loss, as well as anxiety and depression, and she brings practical strategies to help clients cope and move forward.
Diane is a direct communicator who has experience “speaking truth to power,” and part of her practice includes coaching executives who have lost their jobs and are facing emotionally difficult transitions. She is also experienced in counseling cross-cultural and interfaith couples at both the premarital stage and later in marriage.
As an ally with experience in GLBTQ+ issues, Diane works with people around coming out, family disclosure and acceptance, and straight spouse concerns. She is clear that therapy requires active effort from the person seeking help; she does not aim to provide never-ending supportive therapy but rather to serve as a launching point for change and growth.
If someone is ready to take that step and begin work toward new goals, they are encouraged to contact Diane McClain to discuss how she can help.
Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the clearest benefits is flexibility – clients can connect in the format that fits their needs, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. That variety makes it easier to incorporate therapy into a busy schedule or to continue care during transitions.
Licensed professionals provide online care, and if a client decides they would prefer a different therapist, switching to another clinician is an option. For many people, remote therapy offers an accessible, effective way to address everyday mental health concerns while maintaining the adaptability of modern life.
