Amy Polson

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Are you feeling lost, disconnected, overwhelmed or struggling with self-esteem? You don’t have to carry things all on your own. I may not have all the answers, but I’m here to help you hold the weight and walk alongside you as we figure things out together.

My deepest intention is to support you in coming home to yourself. I know what it’s like to take that first vulnerable step of seeking therapy. I can assure you that if we work together, I will greet you with warmth, non-judgement, deep listening and understanding. I will bring curiosity about what makes you you, and together we’ll shape an approach to suit your specific needs and preferences.

My background:

I am a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor & psychotherapist based in Scotland, UK. I have a background in education and mental health support, and have been working with clients in private practice for the past 3 years. I have experience in helping people with:
– Stress
– Trauma
– Anxiety
– Depression
– OCD & intrusive thoughts
– Motivation
– Self-esteem/self-worth
– Relationship issues
– Neurodivergence (ADHD & Autism)
– LGBTQ+ related issues
– Women’s issues
– Grief
– Existential concerns and life transitions
– Self-harm
– Body image

My training includes a BACP-accredited diploma in Counselling and a further Post-graduate Certificate in Pluralistic Psychotherapy. I have additional training and Continued Professional Development in trauma-informed working with survivors of sexual violence, mindfulness, parts work and somatics & embodiment.

Areas of special interest:

While I welcome and value working with people from all walks of life, I have a particular interest in working with:
– People exploring Gender, Sexuality or Relationship Diversity (including non-monogamy & kink)
– Highly sensitive individuals and those with complex/developmental trauma
– Anyone seeking to improve their relationship with themselves – to deepen self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion

But whoever you are, and whatever you’re experiencing, if you feel we might work well together I would love to meet you.

The principles of how I work:

– Relational – meaning I will always prioritise building a warm, supportive, non-judgemental and authentic therapeutic relationship with you. Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in positive outcomes. I bring myself as a real person into our work – offering space for humour, honest feedback, authentic connection and trying out new ways of relating – whilst always maintaining professional boundaries to ensure your safety and wellbeing.
– Collaborative & integrative – meaning I will work with you to create a unique approach tailored to your own needs and preferences. I can draw upon a number of different therapeutic approaches depending on what is needed in the moment. We’ll check in periodically throughout our work together to reflect on how things are going and consider if we want to make any changes going forward.
– Trauma-informed – meaning I will support you to connect to your own strengths, agency and choice, and will bring a nuanced understanding of how trauma can affect our thoughts, behaviours, relationships, bodies and sense of safety/ stability.
– Holistic – meaning I can understand how many factors will have shaped you and your current situation, including how systemic forces such as capitalism, racism and gender norms can impact our ability to flourish and thrive. It also means I honour the many ways people find healing and resilience, through therapy, but also through other resources such as community, cultural traditions, spiritual practices, creativity and connection to the natural world.

Next steps:

If any of this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you – I’m here to meet you with genuine care, curiosity and compassion. Let’s take it one step at a time, together.

About

Amy Polson works with people who feel lost, disconnected, overwhelmed or who are struggling with self-esteem, offering a steady presence as they explore what is happening in their lives. She does not claim to have all the answers but aims to help clients carry difficult feelings and walk alongside them as they figure things out together.

Her primary intention is to support people in coming home to themselves. She greets new clients with warmth, non-judgement, attentive listening and curiosity about what makes each person unique, and she collaborates with clients to shape an approach that fits their needs and preferences.

Amy is a fully qualified and BACP registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in Scotland, UK. She has a background in education and mental health support and has worked in private practice for the past 3 years. She has experience supporting people with stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD and intrusive thoughts, motivation, self-esteem and self-worth, relationship issues, neurodivergence (ADHD & Autism), LGBTQ+ related concerns, women’s issues, grief, existential questions and life transitions, self-harm, and body image.

Her formal training includes a BACP-accredited diploma in Counselling and a Post-graduate Certificate in Pluralistic Psychotherapy. She has also undertaken additional training and ongoing professional development in trauma-informed work with survivors of sexual violence, mindfulness, parts work, and somatics and embodiment.

Amy has a particular interest in working with people exploring gender, sexuality or relationship diversity – including non-monogamy and kink – highly sensitive people and those with complex or developmental trauma, and anyone seeking to deepen self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-compassion. Regardless of background or experience, she welcomes people who feel they might be a good fit for her way of working.

Her practice is relational, prioritising a warm, supportive, non-judgemental and authentic therapeutic relationship while maintaining clear professional boundaries for safety and wellbeing. She works collaboratively and integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches as needed and checking in throughout the work to reflect and adjust. Amy is trauma-informed and aims to support clients to connect with their strengths, agency and choices, with an understanding of how trauma can affect thinking, behaviour, relationships, the body and a sense of stability. She also takes a holistic view, recognising how broader social and systemic forces such as capitalism, racism and gender norms can shape a person’s experience, and she honours the many ways people find healing beyond therapy, including community, culture, creativity and connection to nature.

If her approach resonates, Amy welcomes contact and is ready to meet people with genuine care, curiosity and compassion. She invites those interested to take the next step one small step at a time.

Is Online Therapy the Right Choice for Your Mental Health Journey?

Many people ask whether online therapy can really help. For a range of common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and life transitions – online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

One of the key benefits is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that suits them best – through video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging – making it easier to fit therapy into daily life.

All therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists at any time if they would prefer a different fit. For many people, online therapy provides an accessible and effective way to start or continue their therapeutic work.
