Murray Harvey

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

How do you choose who to work with? Here are some of my key points.

“I am well qualified, and I put ethics and safety at the front of my practice.”

I studied counselling at Uni and did a masters in psychology to make sure I can do this properly! I have full adult and child DBS, full insurance and am a registered member of BACP. Your safety is very important to me.

“I feel the struggle and suffering of what many clients experience, because I have felt it before.”

Life can be extremely tough. It is horrible to feel struggle or to suffer. In the past I have suffered from panic attacks, anxiety, depression, addictions, substance use, suicidal ideation and many more. I think I have ADHD which I am working on at present. Feeling what you feel can help me to help you overcome the problems.

“These are your sessions, I work with you to give you what you want or need from them”

I’m trained pluralistically which means that different people need different things in therapy. You are unique, I try to provide what you want or need from me by communicating with you and integrating different approaches and theories. I always continue to learn, to provide more for you and your sessions.

“I feel confident to work with almost all people and almost all problems”

I am a general psychotherapist, and I enjoy working with everyone. I’m not afraid from working with the majority of psychological presentations. Feel free to message and ask if I can help with something. I work well with anxiety based problems, I work well with males. If I don’t know how to work with you I will say as this is being fair to you.

“I like to be honest, open, straightforward, real.”

Sometimes we need to work things out ourselves, sometimes we need help to do so. It is better for me to be real with you, and to discuss our work together, than to take your money under false pretences. Working pluralistically can be pragmatic at times. I genuinely care for my clients, I am always gaining understanding your perspective, I am always wanting to help you.

“I want to try to leave the world a slightly better place”

Our meaning is important to all of us. We find meaning in love, work and suffering (Frankl, 1946). People have a ripple effect on the people we meet through our interactions (Yalom, 2008).

MORE ABOUT ME

Away from work I like music, I try to keep myself healthy but could do better, walking my dog helps this. I’m fairly boring right now but I do have a serious interest in human beings, the world and how we navigate our way through difficulties, life events and periods of change. I like to study and learn.

People like to work with me for long periods of time but different people need different things and it is more important to me that you get what you need from our work.

About

Murray Harvey trained in counselling at university and completed a masters in psychology, and he places ethics and client safety at the centre of his work. He holds full adult and child DBS checks, carries full insurance, and is a registered member of the BACP.

He speaks from lived experience of mental health challenges, having experienced panic attacks, anxiety, depression, addictions, substance use and suicidal ideation in the past. He believes he may have ADHD and is currently working on that. Those personal experiences inform his empathy and understanding when supporting others.

Murray works in a pluralistic way, integrating different therapeutic approaches to match what each person needs. He aims to shape sessions around the individual, communicating openly about goals and methods and continuing to learn so he can offer more to his clients.

As a general psychotherapist he feels confident working with a wide range of people and presentations. He tends to work well with anxiety-based problems and with male clients, and he is clear that if a particular issue falls outside his scope he will say so rather than offer ineffective support.

Honesty and straightforwardness guide his practice. He prefers to be open about the likely course of therapy and to work practically with clients rather than to promise unrealistic outcomes. He genuinely cares for his clients and continually seeks to understand their perspective.

Murray is motivated by a wish to leave the world a little better. He finds meaning in the aspects of life described by Frankl and recognises the ripple effect our relationships can have, an idea also discussed by Yalom.

Outside work he enjoys music, tries to look after his health – walking his dog helps – and maintains a keen interest in people, the world and how we navigate change. Some people choose to work with him for long periods, while others need shorter input; his priority is that clients get what they need from the work. Contact Murray to see if you might be able to work together.

Is Online Therapy the Right Choice for Your Mental Health Journey?

Many people ask whether online therapy can make a real difference. For the most common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes – online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.

A major benefit is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. That flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.

Each therapist is a licensed professional, and if you decide the match is not right you can switch to a different therapist at any time. Online work offers practical options while retaining the same professional support you would expect from face-to-face therapy.
