About

About Dr Cynthia

Before I went to school to become a psychotherapist, I was a teacher of Inner Guidance. I also taught the curriculum to become a teacher of Inner Guidance.
We all have powerful internal senses that we tend to neglect: intuition, insight, instinct, imagination and deeper intelligence that grows sharper the more we use it.

Too often, our personal growth becomes confined at the surface of ourselves by the effects of childhood trauma and how we’re raised. Sometimes we don’t know there is so much more to us.

Once we develop accurate self-knowledge and learn what part
of us is doing our thinking and making our decisions, then self mastery is within reach.

I help people unravel their personal predicaments and develop self mastery. Once we become more greatly empowered – we are equipped to know what we want in life and how to manifest it.

I received my CA license (lmft2980) in 1992, received my PhD in psychology in 1996. I wrote/published a book, “The Care and Feeding of Perfectionists “, 1998.
Often we spot perfectionism in others but cannot recognize it ourselves. Many of us believe the Perfectionist is the best part of us, when really, it prevents us from liking ourselves. Each of us have at least 2 types of perfectionism (9 types in my book). If not neutralized, it blocks our growth by convincing us that we are not good enough. I help people replace perfectionism with a free internal Gift. The inner drive toward Excellence- which springs from the Self – is a beautiful world away from the pain of perfectionism- which is a push from a wounded ego.
Once we connect to our Inner Self, we see ourselves and our world as
it really is. Then life, healing and accomplishments can become wondrous easy.

About

Dr. Cynthia Curnan began her professional journey as a teacher of Inner Guidance, including training others in the curriculum to become teachers of that approach. She emphasizes the inner senses people often neglect – intuition, insight, instinct, imagination and a deeper intelligence that sharpens with use – as central resources for growth.

She observes how childhood wounds and family patterns can confine personal development to surface-level responses, leaving many unaware of the fuller capacities they possess. By helping clients develop accurate self-knowledge and recognize which parts of themselves are driving thought and choice, she supports a path toward self-mastery.

Dr. Curnan assists people in unraveling personal predicaments and in cultivating greater personal power so they can clarify what they want and learn how to manifest it. She received her California license as a marriage and family therapist (CA LMFT 29820) in 1992 and earned a PhD in psychology in 1996. She is the author of The Care and Feeding of Perfectionists, published in 1998, which outlines multiple types of perfectionism and offers ways to move from perfectionism to an inner drive toward excellence.

Alongside talk therapy, Dr. Curnan uses methods that include identifying and healing trauma, conscious breathing, dream analysis, focused meditation, Inner Guidance and inner child work, and the use of humor. She incorporates EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprogramming), FLASH (an offshoot of EMDR), interactive hypnotherapy, and practical work on goal setting, presence, dismantling perfectionism, accepting personal power and couples counseling to support lasting change.

Is Online Therapy the Right Fit for Your Needs?

Many people ask whether online therapy can truly help. For many common concerns – including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and major life transitions – remote therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person care.

One of the primary advantages is flexibility. Clients can choose the mode of connection that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging – which often makes it easier to incorporate therapy into a busy life.

All therapists are licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists at any time if they seek a different fit. For everyday mental health needs and life challenges, online therapy offers an accessible, effective option that adapts to how people live and communicate today.
