Valerie LaPorte is a Minnesota-licensed clinical social worker with more than 10 years of clinical experience and a total of 21 years of professional experience. She is approved by the Minnesota Board of Social Work to serve as both a clinical and a non-clinical licensing supervisor.
Over the course of her career she has worked with clients across the lifespan, from young children to older adults, addressing a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, anger management, family conflicts, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, incarceration-related issues, and disability-related challenges. For the vast majority of her professional life she has worked almost exclusively with individuals who have serious mental illness.
Her counseling approach is empathetic and goal-directed, grounded in approachability, attentive listening, and practical problem solving. She prioritizes treating each person with dignity, respect, and compassion so that clients feel heard and empowered to pursue their goals.
Valerie integrates several evidence-informed approaches to fit each person’s needs, drawing on solution-focused brief therapy, strengths-based work, and cognitive-behavioral techniques to develop individualized treatment plans aimed at meaningful outcomes.
She looks forward to supporting people as they work toward greater well-being.
Many people wonder whether online therapy truly makes a difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or coping with life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A key advantage is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. That flexibility often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Licensed professionals deliver care remotely, and clients can change therapists if they feel a different match would be better. For many people, online therapy offers an accessible and effective option for addressing everyday mental health needs.
