Dr. Ryan Knutson is a Wisconsin-licensed counselor with more than 10 years of professional experience. He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in mental health counseling, and a doctorate in counselor education and supervision.
He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (WI LPC 6612-125), a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), and an Independent Clinical Supervisor (ICS), which indicates licensure to practice counseling, specialized training in substance use treatment, and authorization to supervise other clinicians. His clinical work has taken place in correctional settings, outpatient programs, group homes, and through volunteer counseling at the Salvation Army. He has served as a supervisor for more than seven years and has experience as an adjunct instructor in a graduate counseling program. He has been working on Betterhelp since 2022.
Dr. Knutson’s theoretical foundation includes cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered approaches, motivational interviewing, and strength-based practices. He tailors techniques to match each individual’s needs and prefers therapy that feels like a helpful conversation rather than a formal procedure. He is dedicated to supporting others and welcomes the opportunity to provide care to those in need.
Many people wonder whether therapy delivered online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or coping with life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care for most individuals.
One major benefit is convenience and flexibility - people can connect in the way that suits them best, whether that means video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule.
Therapists offering online services are licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists at any time if they seek a different fit. For many, online therapy provides an accessible and practical option to pursue mental health support.
