Ryan Forbes prefers to go by “Forbes” to avoid confusion, though he is also happy to be called Ryan. He is biracial: his father is Maori from the Waikato region of New Zealand and his mother is English and was born in the United States.
Raised in Nevada across a mix of cities and rural communities while his parents worked for state government, Forbes brings a wide range of life experience to his clinical work. He is licensed in Utah as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (UT LCMHC 5529290-6004) and has ten years of counseling experience.
Forbes works with people on stress and anxiety, relationship concerns, motivation, self-esteem and confidence, bipolar disorder, depression, LGBT issues, family and parenting challenges, grief, intimacy-related issues, anger, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, and ADHD. He is a gay, male therapist and identifies as Christian.
He approaches therapy with the belief that each person is the expert on their own story and already possesses strengths that can be used to move through challenges. Seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage, and Forbes aims to support and empower clients as they take those first steps toward change.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main benefits is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that fits their lives best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to keep therapy consistent amid busy schedules.
Each therapist involved is a licensed professional, and clients have the option to switch therapists if they want a different fit. Online therapy can be a practical, accessible way to get support for many everyday mental health concerns.
