Polly Mortensen draws on two decades of professional experience to support people through stressful life events and longer-standing struggles. She believes in the resilience within each person and works collaboratively to help individuals rediscover their strengths and move toward healing and growth.
She holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Community Psychology and is licensed to practice as a mental health counselor in New York (license NY LMHC 000426). Over 21 years she has worked in psychiatric rehabilitation outpatient continuing day treatment, provided home-based therapy for people living with HIV and mental health needs, and supported children and adults involved in foster care. She has also worked extensively with people who have trauma histories and with members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In addition to clinical counseling, Polly has 14 years of experience in vocational and rehabilitation counseling across New York and Florida as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. That background informs her approach to educational and career coaching, helping clients explore their abilities and move toward greater self-sufficiency and success.
Her style is warm and approachable, shaped by life experience, elements of Eastern philosophy, and established counseling theories. She uses evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy, tailoring each session to the client’s needs. Polly values empathy and partnership and looks forward to supporting people as they grow and regain confidence.
