Pamela Varas is a Certified Counsellor registered with the Australia Counselling Association. She is a warm and compassionate practitioner who describes herself as a natural helper and takes pride in building trusting therapeutic relationships.
After completing a Bachelor of Counselling in 2022 at ACAP, Pamela continued providing counselling support to women who had experienced domestic violence. In October 2022 she began working at Dementia Australia, offering Brief Solution Focused Therapy and emotional support to carers and people living with dementia.
Pamela has accumulated more than 911 client contact hours and nearly 75 hours of clinic supervision, including both individual and group supervision. In late 2022 she launched a private counselling practice that aligns with her passion for offering emotional support to the community.
Her clinical focus includes working with adults on depression, anxiety and healing childhood trauma. Pamela has undertaken training in treating trauma survivors and in interventions for depression and anxiety, and she applies grief and loss techniques when addressing relationship issues. She also works closely with a clinician supervisor who specialises in psychotherapy and has developed a strong interest in that field.
Pamela is about to commence a Masters in Psychotherapy and Counselling and values ongoing study in psychotherapy, trauma-informed therapy, person-centred practice and professional ethics as complementary to her clinical work. Her therapeutic approach blends cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, Internal Family Systems (parts work) and Gestalt, with an overarching trauma-informed, person-centred stance. She looks forward to meeting prospective clients.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy can truly help. For a range of common concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and life transitions - online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional face-to-face sessions.
One major benefit is flexibility. Individuals can choose the format that fits their needs and comfort level - video sessions, phone calls, live chat or in-app messaging - which makes it easier to incorporate therapy into a busy life.
All therapists are licensed professionals, and if someone feels they need a different fit they have the option to switch practitioners at any time.
