Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hello, my name is Michelle (she/her) and I own and run Athena Counselling (www.athenacounselling.com). I am an integrative counsellor that also specialises in gaming and geek therapy.
If you’re on this website, I’m guessing life is a bit much at the moment? Whether it’s anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, critical self-talk, imposter syndrome or something else, I might be able to help you. I can offer a caring, down to earth, non-judgemental space in which we can work together to explore the what’s and why’s of your current issues.
I trained on and off for about ten years to become a counsellor, taking breaks between courses to work in different areas, however counselling is where my heart is, helping others to make sense of their worlds and now this is my main focus. It was during my studies that I discovered I was able to combine my desire to help people with my love for gaming and geekery and after completing my diploma i have been working on developing my style of ‘geek therapy’ and putting together workshops to train other counsellors (still a work in progress!)

Michelle Chapman (she/her) owns and runs Athena Counselling (www.athenacounselling.com) in the United Kingdom. She is an integrative counsellor who also specialises in gaming and geek therapy and has three years of experience supporting people through a range of difficulties.
Michelle offers a caring, down-to-earth, non-judgemental space in which she works with clients to explore the whats and whys of their current issues, whether that includes anxiety, low self-esteem, depression or other concerns.
She trained on and off for about ten years, taking breaks between courses to work in different areas before making counselling her main focus. During her studies she discovered she could combine a desire to help others with her love of gaming and geek culture, and after completing her diploma she has continued developing a style of ‘geek therapy’ and creating workshops to train other counsellors – a project that remains a work in progress.
For many common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes – online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions. It can offer a practical alternative that still supports meaningful progress.
One of the main benefits is flexibility. People can choose the format that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to fit therapy into everyday life and keep momentum between appointments.
Therapists providing online care are licensed professionals, and clients are free to switch therapists at any time if they would prefer a different fit. This approach makes it easier to find the right therapeutic relationship while maintaining access to qualified support.
