About

Lisa Badman-Dunphy is a BACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor with a long-standing background in health and social care. Before qualifying as a counsellor she spent over 20 years working with the NHS and other care-sector providers, supporting teams in health visiting, sexual health, older persons mental health and special educational needs and disabilities.

She works with people who want to explore their motivations, relationships, self-esteem and sense of identity, and with those who are experiencing depression, anxiety, a sense of dread or feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. Lisa believes that through openness and talking therapy it is possible to search for meaning and build greater self-awareness, growth and change, and she offers a non-judgmental, supportive space in which to explore these issues together.

Her psychotherapeutic counselling approach focuses on identifying the roots of emotions, thoughts and behaviours. By bringing unconscious dynamics to light, she helps clients understand how past experiences influence present patterns and contribute to distress. Lisa provides one-to-one therapy online and by phone, with sessions normally held once a week. Work can be arranged for a short-term period or in an open-ended way, depending on the client’s needs.

She became a counsellor out of a passion for supporting people through their mental health journeys. Her core values are empathy, openness and respect, and she aims to create a space where clients feel heard and supported. Lisa engages with communities including BIPOC, body positivity, open-relationships/ethical non-monogamy, LGBTQIA+ and sex-positive groups.

She offers sessions with Better Help on Monday and Wednesday. To arrange an initial consultation and discuss counselling needs, get in touch to book an appointment.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people ask whether online therapy can make a real difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions. A major advantage is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether through video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This flexibility often makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life. Therapists offering online work are licensed professionals, and clients may choose to switch therapists if they need a different fit. For a wide range of everyday mental health needs, online therapy provides an accessible, flexible option for receiving professional support.
