Julia Thompson (pronouns they/them/their) is a licensed clinical professional counselor practicing in Maryland (MD). They hold a master’s degree from Loyola University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland, and they carry eight years of professional experience.
They concentrate on substance use disorders, stress and anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ related concerns, and coping with grief and loss. As a therapist of color who works with gay clients among other populations, Julia offers an affirming, nonjudgmental space where thoughts and emotions can be explored openly.
Julia draws on mindfulness interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients feel supported and engaged in the work of improving mental health. They aim to empower clients during the often challenging first steps toward change.
Outside of clinical work, Julia enjoys reading, gaming, home improvement projects, gardening, and creating stained glass art and other crafts. They also design costumes and headpieces with a focus on historical and cultural dress, and after having had dogs in the past they now share their home with feline companions. Julia is licensed in Maryland as an LCPC, license number LC9868.
For many common concerns—including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and major life transitions—online therapy can be an effective option comparable to traditional in-person care. Research and practice have shown that remote sessions address these issues successfully for a great number of people.
One clear benefit is flexibility. Clients can choose the format that fits their needs and schedule best, whether that’s video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to maintain continuity of care and to fit therapy into a busy life.
Clients work with licensed professionals, and it is possible to change therapists if someone wants a different fit. The combination of accessible formats and credentialed therapists helps many people take the step toward improved mental health while accommodating the practicalities of everyday life.
