Joyce Tanner is a California-licensed clinical social worker with three decades of professional experience who combines psychotherapy and consulting in her practice. She holds certifications in life and career coaching, family group conferences, couples communication, and parent facilitation, and she has applied these skills across a range of clinical and consulting settings.
Her work has spanned many states, and more recently she provided counseling and training as a Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Counselor, supporting military service members and their families. One of her specialty areas is helping blended families build healthy relationships and function effectively, and she also assesses foster and adoptive families.
Tanner has extensive experience addressing grief, trauma, Gestalt therapy methods, crisis intervention, stress management, re-decision making, self-care, reality therapy, compassion fatigue, career management, goal setting, family reunification, anxiety, and life transitions. She approaches each case with an emphasis on identifying strengths, encouraging growth, and fostering meaningful change.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Joyce values listening to clients' life stories, witnessing increased self-awareness, and supporting healing and transformation.
Outside of her professional life she enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, engaging in thoughtful conversation, listening to music, singing, playing games, maintaining a positive outlook, and laughing without reservation. She is the mother of three daughters and draws on her own experiences of moving and adapting across multiple states to inform her practice. She lives by the belief that “No Man is An Island, No Man Stands Alone” and works with clients where they are on their life journeys.
Many people wonder whether online therapy delivers meaningful results. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or navigating life changes, remote therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
A key benefit is flexibility - clients can meet with their therapist in the format that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This makes it simpler to integrate therapy into a busy schedule and to access care from different locations.
All therapists offering these services are licensed professionals, and if a client feels a different fit would be helpful, it is possible to switch to another therapist. Online therapy provides a practical option for many people seeking support for everyday mental health concerns and life transitions.
