Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I believe that each client has unique concerns and issues that should be focused upon one at a time. However, some conditions have to be treated concurrently, such as times when comorbid (underlying and preexisting) conditions exist, for example: PTSD and anxiety and depression, or substance abuse and other mental health disorders. During this time of pandemic, social unrest, and beyond; my role is to help you explore your concerns/issues and build new realities based upon your strengths. I view counseling as a collaborative process whereby the achievement of mutually defined counseling goals is accomplished through commitment and patience. Counseling can help you gain personal insight and lead you to a better understanding of yourself and others. I use a variety of theoretical approaches individualized for you and your life situation. Diagnostic and testing information will be used to help guide my work with you. Your active involvement in and out of our sessions together is essential to gain maximum benefit from your counseling sessions. I may ask you to do homework assignments, exercises or journals. Periodically, we will evaluate our progress and, if necessary, redesign our treatment plan. Remember we are in this together. My commitment is to walk alongside you. As with any intervention, there are both benefits and risks associated with counseling that may include experiencing uncomfortable levels of feelings like sadness, guilt, anger or frustration. Often progress is a gradual process. The goal is to achieve the best and most promising outcome for you.

Area of competence consist of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders and trauma; utilizing treatment approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Person Centered, Reality and related Choice therapies, Motivational Interviewing techniques, mental health services consultation and training; and individual and group counseling.
Most recently, I have had the awesome privilege of working as Lead Clinician at a residential facility walking alongside women, women with children, and men experiencing homelessness. We utilize a transformational model of change centered in both Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic approaches. Realizing that one approach is not appropriate for all we integrate other modalities in treatment with amazing outcomes. I must say that it has been a world-class experience, and one of the most challenging yet rewarding times of my vocation thus far.

Geraldine (Geri) Godbolt approaches each person as an individual, focusing on one concern at a time while recognizing that some conditions must be addressed together – for example when post-traumatic stress occurs alongside anxiety and depression, or when substance use coexists with other mental health disorders. In the context of the pandemic, social unrest, and beyond, she works collaboratively with clients to explore their concerns and to build new realities rooted in personal strengths.
Geri views counseling as a partnership in which mutually defined goals are reached through commitment and patience. She helps clients develop insight and a clearer understanding of themselves and their relationships, tailoring therapeutic methods to each person’s life circumstances. Diagnostic information and psychological testing are used to inform and guide treatment decisions.
Her clinical toolbox includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness and acceptance-based CBT approaches, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, person-centered work, reality and choice therapies, and Motivational Interviewing. She provides both individual and group counseling and offers mental health consultation and training as part of her practice.
Clients should expect an active role in the work – in and out of sessions – with occasional homework, exercises, or journaling to reinforce progress. Periodic reviews of treatment goals and outcomes take place, and plans are adjusted as needed. Geri is transparent about the fact that therapy can bring up uncomfortable emotions such as sadness, guilt, anger, or frustration, and that meaningful change often unfolds gradually. Her commitment is to walk alongside clients through the process.
Geri earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Regent University College of Arts and Science, graduating Cum Laude and holding lifetime membership in Psi Chi, the international psychology honor society. She completed her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Regent University School of Psychology & Counseling and holds a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Trauma. She is also a member of Chi Sigma Iota, the counseling academic and professional honor society.
Professionally, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia (LPC, license LPC011844) and holds national board certifications as a Nationally Certified Counselor and as a Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. She has completed the CADC-II credential and is currently in the third year of a PhD program in Clinical Psychology to expand her ability to provide psychological testing. She is also pursuing training in medication-assisted treatment and is moving toward clinical supervisor credentials, with applications and licensure processes in progress.
Most recently, Geri served as Lead Clinician at a residential facility, supporting women, women with children, and men experiencing homelessness. That role emphasized a transformational model of change centered on person-centered and cognitive-behavioral approaches, while integrating multiple modalities to meet diverse needs and achieve meaningful outcomes.
Many people question whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or navigating life transitions, remote counseling has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.
One major benefit is convenience – therapy can fit more easily into busy lives because clients can meet with a therapist using the method that suits them best: video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging. This flexibility makes it simpler to keep regular appointments and maintain continuity of care.
All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be better. Online therapy offers a practical, accessible way to engage with skilled therapists while addressing everyday mental health concerns.
