Catherine Thomson, who invites people to call her Kate, is a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
She is qualified to work with children, young adults, adults, couples and families. Kate adopts a solution-focused approach, supporting clients to gain control over negative thoughts and behaviours, manage feelings, reduce anxiety, focus the mind, set goals, resolve problems, own personal values, assert boundaries and feel empowered to be themselves.
She offers to walk alongside clients on their journey, listening, supporting and seeking to understand their experience.
Her professional background includes roles with charities such as Mind and Action for Carers, work in the private sector with BUPA and running a private practice. Kate has supported couples and individuals both face to face and online, working with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and sexual orientations.
Before training as a counsellor she had a varied career, from running her own businesses to working for corporate employers and serving as chairperson of her children’s school Parent Teachers Association. Her manner is non-judgemental, friendly and professional, and she uses a variety of tools and techniques to help clients understand themselves and one another. Her counselling style is flexible and tailored to each person’s situation; she will guide and offer support while leaving choices in the hands of the client. With three years of experience, Kate brings knowledge and practical tools to help clients move forward with confidence.
Many people wonder whether working with a therapist online can make a real difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or coping with life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A key benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that suits them best, whether by video call, phone session, live chat or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
Therapists involved are licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists at any time if they feel a different fit would be better. For many people, online therapy offers an effective, adaptable route to get support for everyday mental health and relationship concerns.
