About

Arthur Hastings, LMHC, has spent more than four decades dedicated to the counseling profession. He entered the mental health field at age 18 on a psychiatric unit at a VA hospital in Indiana and soon after joined a local community mental health center, where he worked for the next 40 years. After retiring from that long-term role in 2018, he continued in private practice and remains energized by the work of therapy and the opportunity to support people through life challenges.

He brings extensive experience with concerns such as trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and LGBTQ-related issues, and he especially welcomes individuals seeking help for trauma and anxiety disorders. Since the pandemic began, he has also provided telehealth services from home and from his private practice office, allowing clients to access care in a way that fits their lives. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), he values the counseling relationship and looks forward to connecting with new clients and beginning the work together.

Therapy Approaches That Translate Well to Online Care

Arthur Hastings draws from several evidence-informed approaches that can work effectively in an online setting. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on noticing patterns in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, then practicing new skills to respond differently. It is often helpful for concerns like anxiety, low mood, stress, and day-to-day coping challenges.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) emphasizes building psychological flexibility. Rather than getting stuck in a fight with difficult thoughts or emotions, ACT helps clients clarify what matters most and take values-based steps forward, which can be useful when life feels overwhelming or when worries keep taking up mental space.

Attachment-Based Therapy looks at how early and ongoing relationships shape current needs for closeness, trust, and safety with others. It can be a supportive fit for relationship strain, family dynamics, and the impact of past experiences on present connections.

Finding the right approach is part of the process. Arthur Hastings works collaboratively with clients to understand goals, preferences, and what has or has not helped before, then adjusts the focus over time as needs become clearer.

Online therapy also offers practical flexibility. Clients can meet by video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or text-based messaging, making it easier to fit support into a busy schedule and access care from wherever they are in Indiana.
