Aakansha Sharma is a counsellor based in the United Kingdom with nine years of professional experience supporting people through a wide range of challenges. She is patient, understanding, empathetic and approachable, and she brings careful listening skills to each session to help clients feel heard and understood.
She uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help clients explore how thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact, and to develop more helpful patterns of thinking and action. Aakansha also adopts a Person-Centred stance to assist people in recognising their strengths and areas for growth. Where appropriate and comfortable for the client, she integrates Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic approaches, humanistic methods, solution-focused brief therapy, spiritual counselling and mindfulness practices.
Aakansha completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York in 2012, and went on to earn a Masters in Guidance and Counselling from James Cook University, Singapore in October 2016. To fulfil her degree requirements she completed an internship at NuLife Care and Counselling Services on 14 October 2016. Early in her career she worked as a counsellor at the Centre for Psychotherapy from 2013 to 2015, where she ran drug intervention workshops in Changi Prison, Changi Women’s Prison and Tanah Merah Prison, and collaborated with the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Central Narcotics Bureau on youth-focused programmes for substance misuse.
Her clinical experience includes working with addiction, molestation, anger management, stress, anxiety and custody dispute evaluations. While at NuLife Care and Counselling Services she worked with clients aged 8 to 40 on issues such as childhood trauma, domestic violence, family difficulties, health concerns and substance abuse. In 2017 she gained further experience with children and adolescents at Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, and she completed an MSc in Child and Adolescent Mental Health at King’s College London in December 2019. Aakansha is a Registered Member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
She specialises in areas including stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma and abuse, grief, depression, addictions, family and intimacy-related concerns, anger, self-esteem, career issues, bipolar disorder, coping with life changes and ADHD. As a female therapist of colour, she brings perspective and cultural awareness to her work with diverse clients.
Many people wonder whether remote counselling can produce meaningful results. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems or life transitions, online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional face-to-face sessions.
Flexibility is a key benefit - clients can choose the communication style that suits them best, including video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to fit therapy into busy schedules and to engage in ways that feel most comfortable.
All therapists involved are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they feel a different fit would be better. Online therapy can offer a practical, effective route to support for many common mental health and life challenges.
