Peggy Lingard

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

When I moved to California to accept the job of my dreams I experienced a significant JOLT! Nearly everything in my life changed – I lost a lot of my support system, I lost some of my self, I lost my ability to tap into my strengths and positives in my life. Fortunately I was guided to an excellent therapist who encouraged me to invest in people and activities that brought joy. The most important lesson I learned was to talk less and DO more! I re-connected with nature and began painting – and I still love to paint after 18 years. What is your story? What do you fear? What strengths can you count on?
I was fortunate to train with professionals who are at the top of our field. I’ve mastered Family Systems Theory, Problem-solving, Divorce Mediation, Solution Focus and Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Resilience and Mindfulness. If you would like to know more about evidence-based therapies I’m glad to share the research and my thoughts about what is effective. However, after many years sitting with people who are experiencing anxiety from change, confusion about growth, grief or loss I believe that the alliance between therapist and client is the number one factor for success and change. So, we can borrow or practice anything from these excellent therapies I listed – for example, using mindfulness or distress tolerance skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy – but I will always honor our alliance and insure that you feel heard and that you are my partner in directing therapy.
A bit more about me – I am a Lesbian. I have three grown children and a wife who is African American. I don’t claim to have mastered all the diversity in my life. That is a life-long journey. I feel graced by these layers of respect, forgiveness, open-heartedness and curiosity in relationships. I would not change any discomfort for what I have shared. So, I am excited to work with anyone who is willing to increase transparency and to let go of what is not working. My experience may be an asset, but I assure you that the best I can offer is to see each of you with fresh eyes. You are the strongest ingredient in growing your life.

About

Peggy Lingard moved to California to accept the job of her dreams and experienced a significant jolt when nearly everything in her life changed – she lost much of her support system, a sense of self, and the ability to tap into strengths she once relied on. Guided by an excellent therapist early on, she learned to invest in relationships and activities that brought joy and discovered an important lesson: talk less and do more. Reconnecting with nature and taking up painting became meaningful practices, and she still paints after 18 years.

With four decades of clinical experience, Peggy brings deep knowledge and practical skills to work with stress, anxiety, grief, self-esteem, depression, coping with life changes, addictions, LGBT matters, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related concerns, anger management, career difficulties, bipolar disorder, and compassion fatigue. She is licensed in California as a clinical social worker and combines extensive training with a compassionate, collaborative approach.

Peggy trained with professionals at the top of the field and has mastered Family Systems Theory, problem-solving approaches, divorce mediation, solution-focused and narrative therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, resilience-building, and mindfulness practices. She welcomes questions about evidence-based therapies and is willing to share research and her perspective on what is effective, while remaining grounded in real-world application.

After years of sitting with people who struggle with anxiety from change, uncertainty about growth, and grief or loss, Peggy holds the therapeutic relationship as the single most important factor for meaningful change. She draws from many therapeutic models – for example using mindfulness or distress tolerance skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy – yet always honors the partnership between therapist and client to ensure each person feels heard and helps direct the process.

On a personal level, Peggy is a lesbian with three grown children and a wife who is African American. She does not claim to have mastered all the diversity in her life and regards that as an ongoing journey. She feels graced by layers of respect, forgiveness, open-heartedness, and curiosity in relationships, and would not change the discomfort that has shaped her story.

Peggy is excited to work with anyone willing to increase transparency and let go of what is not working. While her experience may be an asset, she emphasizes that the client is the strongest ingredient in growing a life, and she strives to see each person with fresh eyes.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can truly make a difference. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes, research indicates that online therapy can be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.

One major advantage is convenience and flexibility. Individuals can connect with a therapist in the format that fits their life best – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – which can make it easier to maintain regular, ongoing care.

All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they want a different fit. Online therapy makes it simpler to access professional help while accommodating schedules and preferences, helping people take consistent steps toward their goals.
