John Douglass

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Thank you for connecting with me. It is great that you have taken this step toward a counseling relationship. My name is John Douglass. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the state of Alabama. I have been in practice for 20 years working with adolescents, young adults, families and couples at various stages and experiences in life.

I believe that the client is the center of the therapeutic relationship and am client-directed in my approach to therapy. I help clear out some of your “stuff” so you can see more clearly what to work on. Emotions can cause us to behave in ways that we do not like, so I also can help you identify and articulate emotions and the behaviors they are exhibiting, which gives you power to change.

I earned my bachelor’s from the University of Alabama and a Master of Arts in Agency Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then I did a 2-year residency in Pastoral Marriage and Family Therapy working with premarital couples, married couples, and families. I also have experience working with LGBTQ individuals and couples. My most recent trainings have been in the areas of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma informed Care, and Training for Adoptions Competency.

If you are wanting to explore more about how we can work together to promote growth and change, I would welcome that opportunity.

Is Online Therapy the Right Fit for Your Needs?

Many people ask whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and managing life transitions, online therapy has been found to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person care.

A major benefit of remote sessions is flexibility. Individuals can meet with a therapist in the format that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which often makes it easier to fit counseling into a busy schedule.

Therapists offering remote care are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to switch to a different clinician if they feel a different fit would be better. Online therapy can be a practical, accessible way to pursue support for many everyday mental health and relational concerns.
