Barbara Parry is a licensed professional counselor practicing in Texas who brings ten years of clinical experience to her work with adults facing a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, grief, low self-esteem, depression, relationship and family conflicts, intimacy-related issues, anger management, career difficulties, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, and ADHD.
She works from a person-centered, holistic stance and prioritizes meeting each person where they are. Sessions are guided by the client’s immediate needs rather than a rigid, pre-set structure. Her practice uses evidence-based methods while emphasizing collaborative goal setting, and she incorporates techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, motivational interviewing, reality therapy, mindfulness practices, meditation, visualization, emotional freedom techniques (EFT), and Gestalt approaches.
Barbara offers evening and late-night sessions in Central Standard Time. If available appointment times do not fit a client’s schedule, she encourages asking about alternative options and will try to accommodate when possible.
She generally provides a few targeted assignments between sessions and does not rely on extensive worksheets unless specifically requested, so those seeking highly structured, worksheet-heavy therapy may not find the best fit here.
Clients have reported outcomes such as feeling understood and heard, greater relaxation, a more optimistic outlook, increased readiness to try and do things, learning new skills, improved sleep or falling asleep more easily, decreased symptoms, stronger belief in themselves, increased motivation toward goals, and feeling less emotionally heavy.
Barbara describes herself as empathetic, compassionate, kind, and easy to talk to. She actively listens, asks thoughtful questions, and offers encouragement and support while teaching skills, gently challenging unhelpful thoughts, and guiding clients to set and pursue personal goals. She relates across multiple age groups, cares about the wider world and living creatures, and notes personal experience with trauma, abuse, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, loss, and long-term effects of COVID-19. She also identifies as spiritual and serves as a guide in several coping and relaxation techniques aimed at building insight and resilience.
She commends anyone taking steps toward discovery, healing, and growth, and is present to support and empower clients through that work.
