Wendi Nixon is a seasoned counselor who has spent more than 27 years supporting children, adolescents, individuals and families as they recover from trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, abuse and neglect. She earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from Regent University in 1989 and, most recently, completed a doctorate in Counseling and Psychological Studies with a concentration in Trauma and Crisis Counseling in May 2023.
She is a National Certified Counselor and holds a license to practice as a clinical mental health counselor in North Carolina. Wendi completed rostered training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008, and in 2013 she became a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International. Since earning that certification, she has incorporated her therapy horses into her in-person practice to assist children and adults in recovery.
Wendi emphasizes a client-centered approach that recognizes each person as the expert on their own thoughts and feelings. She blends psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and family systems perspectives as appropriate, adapting interventions to address concerns such as family conflict, parenting challenges, blended and adoptive family issues, stress, addiction, ADHD, anger, intimacy and self-esteem.
Committed to offering compassionate, individualized care, Wendi supports clients through the process of finding root causes of distress and working toward greater peace and wholeness.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-person sessions for most people.
A major benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that best fits their lifestyle, choosing video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to schedule and maintain consistent care.
Therapy provided online is delivered by licensed professionals, and clients may change therapists if they seek a different fit. For many individuals facing everyday mental health challenges, online therapy offers an accessible, practical option to pursue support and growth.
