Sonia “Nina” Sweeney is a Brazilian counsellor who has lived in the United Kingdom for more than 20 years. She is licensed in the UK and is a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) as well as an accredited member of the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society). She has 9 years of professional experience offering therapeutic support.
Over the years Nina has worked with adults, teenagers and parents, supporting people with a wide range of concerns including stress, depression, anxiety, self-harm, anger management, surviving domestic and narcissistic abuse, and building self-esteem and confidence. She has undertaken training in Not Good Enough mindset work, dealing with shame, and trauma-informed therapy.
Nina also holds a COSRT Level 5 accredited certificate in couples and relationship work and is currently updating her expertise in trauma-informed therapy through further training. She brings this range of specialist training to her practice when working with individuals and families.
Her approach aims to create an open, non-judgemental space where thoughts and feelings can be explored honestly. Nina emphasises the value of the therapeutic relationship and works to support and empower clients as they take the steps toward a more fulfilling and happier life.
Many people wonder whether therapy delivered online can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or managing life changes, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions for most people.
A key benefit of online work is flexibility - clients can choose the format that fits their life best, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to schedule regular therapy around work, family and other commitments.
Therapy provided online is delivered by licensed professionals and therapists, and if a different therapeutic fit is needed it is possible to switch practitioners. For many, remote sessions offer a practical, effective way to access consistent support while navigating everyday demands.
