Sheila Flipse

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

Hi, my name is Sheila Flipse. My passion is to come along side individuals who are hurting and struggling and walk with them through their journey to health and wholeness in a kind and compassionate manner. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor in the state of Nevada, and a licensed mental health counselor in the state of New York. I am also a national certified counselor.

Born in Liverpool, England I moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a child. I moved the United States to attend college and graduate school. In 2000 I became an American citizen. My areas of specialty include grief and loss, depression, anxiety and stress. While I was a college professor, I developed a class entitled, Death and Dying that has proved helpful to many people over the last few years. I love to help people build a healthy self concept and develop confidence. I have over 30 years of counseling experience.
My professional life has included working with the homeless, elderly, prison, college and military populations. I have lots of experience with relationship and marital concerns. In my spare time I enjoy traveling (62 countries so far!), having fun with my Shichon, Ozzie, playing board games and volunteering for community activities.

My approach is very much cognitive behavioral therapy with motivational interviewing techniques. Together we work to find out what is working in the client’s life and develop those skills and techniques. Then I work at helping the client become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking patterns so that they can begin to view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in more effective ways.

I offer video chat, phone calls or live text chat. My calendar is available for you to schedule appointments with me. I do ask that if you schedule an appointment with me, that you keep the appointment. By canceling, it may create unavailability for someone who really needs to chat. As a recent widow, it may be necessary for my dog Ozzie to be present during our counseling sessions as he is adjusting to his loss as well.

It would be my honor to work with you.

About

Sheila Flipse is a Nevada-based counselor with 30 years of clinical experience who supports people navigating grief, anxiety, stress, depression and many other life challenges. She is licensed to practice as a clinical professional counselor in Nevada and as a mental health counselor in New York, and she also holds national counselor certification.

Born in Liverpool, England, Sheila moved with her family to Toronto, Ontario as a child and later relocated to the United States to attend college and graduate school. She became an American citizen in 2000 and has worked in a variety of professional roles across different settings.

Her specialties include grief and loss, depression, anxiety and stress, self-esteem and confidence building, coping with life changes, compassion fatigue, addictions, LGBT issues, relationship and family conflicts, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related concerns, eating and sleeping disorders, parenting challenges, anger management, career difficulties and ADHD.

While teaching at the college level, Sheila created a course titled Death and Dying that has been valuable to many students and community members. Her professional experience spans work with homeless and elderly populations as well as prison, college and military communities, with extensive experience addressing relationship and marital concerns.

Her clinical approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy combined with motivational interviewing techniques. Sheila works collaboratively with clients to identify what is already helping in their lives, strengthen those skills, and increase awareness of inaccurate or negative thinking patterns so situations can be seen more clearly and responded to more effectively.

Sheila offers sessions via video chat, phone calls or live text chat, and her calendar is available for scheduling. She asks that clients keep scheduled appointments whenever possible, since cancellations can create unavailability for others who need support. As a recent widow, she notes that her Shichon, Ozzie, may sometimes be present during sessions as he adjusts to his loss.

Outside of her clinical work, Sheila enjoys travel—she has visited 62 countries—spending time with Ozzie, playing board games and volunteering in community activities. Sheila would consider it an honor to work with someone seeking support.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether remote counseling can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or navigating life changes, online therapy has been found to be as effective as traditional in-person care for most individuals.

One major benefit is flexibility – clients can connect in the way that best fits their life, whether through video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. This convenience makes it easier to maintain regular sessions even with busy schedules or travel.

Sessions are provided by licensed professionals and clients have the option to change therapists if they need a different fit. For many people, the combination of professional training and flexible access makes online therapy a practical and effective path toward addressing everyday mental health concerns.
