Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Keep it Simple!
Over several decades of studying and practicing a variety of counseling styles, I came to the conclusion that there is not just one “correct” way to understand human behavior. Each path has a unique focus, but no single framework could claim to deal with the wide variety of problems and challenges that people faced.
During those years, I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and so forth.
However, while the theories of psychotherapy were getting MORE complicated, the daily practice of working with the clients actually became simpler! I began to create a simple program that demonstrated that search for simplicity. With my current BetterHelp clients, we started to call this program “the Four SuperPowers”!
Step One: listen to the client’s challenging stories
Step Two: teach a simple exercise (superpower) to address those challenges
Step Three: practice, and then repeat the first two steps!
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and a licensed school teacher and counselor, I had always been a counselor at heart. Long before “Mindfulness” became popular, I served as the “Relaxation Therapist”, having devised a pretty simple, yet universal, set of basic exercises to calm down any and all clients in the facilities in which I worked.
My counseling sessions combine the standard “Western” therapy models with more universal techniques. Also, a touch of humor and artistic creativity can be very helpful in the process. Make sure that you are prepared for a series of teaching sessions based on learning “Self-Therapy skills” before you click on my name as a counselor.
I look forward to traveling that Search for Simplicity with you!

Robert Mace brings a practical, back-to-basics approach to counseling developed over decades of study and clinical practice. He found that no single theory explains all human behavior, so he draws from a variety of therapeutic styles while keeping the day-to-day work with clients straightforward and focused.
Over his 15 years of practice he has supported people facing depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, parenting challenges and career concerns, among other issues. He combines standard Western therapy models with broadly applicable techniques and a dose of humor and creative thinking when appropriate.
With his current clients he uses a simple, skills-based program he calls “the Four SuperPowers.” The approach is easy to follow: Step One – listen closely to the client’s story; Step Two – teach a straightforward practice or “superpower” to address the challenge; Step Three – practice the skill and then repeat the process as needed. This cycle emphasizes learning practical self-therapy skills that clients can use between sessions.
Before mindfulness became widely discussed, he served as a relaxation therapist and developed a set of basic calming exercises that worked across a range of settings. He is a licensed professional counselor in Missouri and Texas and has also worked as a licensed school teacher and counselor, practicing from Missouri and bringing a consistent focus on teaching clients tools they can use on their own.
Robert Mace invites clients who are ready for a series of teaching-based sessions to explore this search for simplicity together and to build durable, self-directed coping strategies.
Many people wonder whether remote sessions can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions for most people.
One major benefit is flexibility. Clients can choose the format that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging – making it easier to fit therapy into a busy schedule or to engage from a convenient location.
All therapists offering these services are licensed professionals, and clients may switch therapists at any time if they want a different fit.
