Robert Barrett is a Florida-based clinical social worker who has been licensed since 1996 and brings 32 years of clinical experience to his practice. He provides counseling and psychotherapy for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depressed mood, relationship difficulties, personal and job-related stress, and other life challenges.
He earned a Master of Social Work from Florida International University in Miami and completed post-graduate training as a clinical sexologist. As a state-certified sex therapist, he is qualified to address difficulties related to sexual function and sexual behavior.
Mr. Barrett has held several leadership and clinical roles during his career, including serving as clinical director of the Southwest Florida Employee Assistance Program and as Program Director for the Human Services Foundation of Lee County. For ten years he worked as the student behavioral health counselor at Florida Southwestern State College, Punta Gorda campus. He has been a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy since 2001.
In treatment he favors a strength-based stance and uses solution-focused brief therapy to help clients build practical solutions that reflect their current circumstances and hopes for the future. He also integrates cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques to identify and address thought patterns that contribute to distress. His work supports individuals and families through transitions and difficult challenges with a straightforward, sincere approach.
For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life transitions, online therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person counseling. Research and clinical practice have shown that these types of issues often respond well to virtual care.
One major benefit is flexibility - clients can choose the way they connect with their therapist that fits their needs and schedule, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This adaptability makes it easier to maintain consistent care when life gets busy or travel is difficult.
All participating clinicians are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different fit. For many people, online therapy offers a practical, accessible way to get support for everyday emotional and relational concerns.
