Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
Hey there! I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist in San Diego, California, USA. My approach to therapy is an empathic and pragmatic, and I draw on techniques and tools from psychodynamic, existential and cognitive-behavioral psychology. Though each person and therapy is unique, in general I aim to help my clients increase self-awareness, learn new ways of coping with difficult feelings and situations, change maladaptive behaviors and thoughts, and find meaning and contentment in their lives.
I received my Doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology (Alliant University) in 2004. Prior to receiving my Doctorate, I interned at The Lesbian and Gay Men’s Community Center and the SDSU Counseling & Psychological Services center.
I know how I see myself, but I thought it might be interesting and more helpful to you to hear how others view me. I asked my colleagues to describe me. This is what they said:
“Dr. Moyer, is a dedicated student of depth psychology and blends the realms of pragmatism, psychodynamics and existentialism in his unique approach to psychotherapy—while trying to maintain a sense of humor. He received his doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology and currently consults for San Diego State University interfacing the disparate worlds of web and internet technology and depth psychology.”
“Dr. Moyer has a keen mind, empathic style and honest, authentic presence. His psychotherapy philosophy bridges the intellectual and the emotional with a tenacious curiosity that has both haunted and helped him throughout his life. He is a devotee of “truth,” meaningfulness, and authentic living as cornerstones of therapy and healthy living. Dr. Moyer works with men of all sexual orientations and has special interests in masculine psychology and parenthood. As a life long, self-proclaimed “tech geek” Dr. Moyer has a particular penchant for establishing rapport and working successfully with socially/emotionally challenged technology professionals and men and women struggling with existential and life questioning conflicts, and those who are especially “difficult to reach” including students struggling with depression and isolation.”

For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or major life changes, online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions. It can be a practical option for people seeking support for these kinds of issues.
One of the primary advantages is flexibility. Individuals can connect in the format that suits them best – video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which can make it much easier to fit regular sessions into a busy schedule.
Therapists available online are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they seek a different fit. For many people, the combination of evidence supporting its effectiveness and the convenience of multiple communication options makes online therapy a useful and accessible choice.
