Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I have had two careers which run concurrently: many years as a parish pastor and at the same time a mental health counselor. I am strongly invested in the LGBTQ issues because of my transgender grandson’s amazing journey. As a hospice chaplain, I have provided bereavement support counseling to families. As a divorce mediator employing dispute management skills, I have guided couples in making parenting decisions that are in the best interests of their children. My passion is not to be a sage on the stage but a guide by the side with individuals and couples seeking solutions that are practical. I have expertise in cognitive -behavioral counseling, rational emotive psychotherapy, anger management (especially with men who abuse), and Life Work Planning and Career Development. I have modest experience with Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Healing Story Telling. I endeavor to blend theory and practice, while affirming growth and risk-taking. I am a non-judgmental listener. I employ humor and unconditional support routinely to neutralize resistance to change. I am old fashioned person who still believes in unconditional positive regard and seeking a truth that sets people free.

Across a 40-year professional span, Rell Spickerman has maintained two concurrent roles: long service as a parish pastor alongside work as a mental health counselor. This dual background informs a perspective that values both spiritual care and practical therapeutic approaches.
Rell is particularly committed to LGBTQ issues, motivated by their transgender grandson’s remarkable journey. That commitment is matched by experience as a hospice chaplain, providing bereavement support counseling to families during end-of-life transitions.
In addition to pastoral and hospice work, Rell has served as a divorce mediator, using dispute management skills to help couples make parenting decisions focused on their children’s best interests. Their approach favors being a guide by the side rather than a sage on a stage, working with individuals and couples to find realistic, actionable solutions.
Rell’s clinical strengths include cognitive-behavioral counseling, rational emotive psychotherapy, anger management – especially work with men who abuse – and Life Work Planning and Career Development. They also have modest experience with Ericksonian hypnotherapy and healing storytelling, and strive to blend theory with practice while encouraging growth and well-considered risk-taking.
Known as a non-judgmental listener, Rell routinely uses humor and steady support to reduce resistance to change. As an old-fashioned practitioner, they continue to value unconditional positive regard and the pursuit of truths that help people move toward greater freedom. Rell holds a Michigan Licensed Master Social Worker credential – LMSW, license number 6801013241 – reflecting licensure in the state of Michigan.
Many people wonder whether remote therapy truly helps. For most common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes – online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person treatment for many individuals.
One major benefit is flexibility. People can meet with a therapist in the format that best fits their schedule and comfort level – video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging – making it simpler to maintain continuity of care.
Licensed professionals provide these services, and if someone feels another provider would be a better fit, it is possible to switch therapists. This approach can make therapy more accessible without sacrificing the professional qualifications of the clinician.
