Rachel McGowan is a licensed independent clinical social worker in Massachusetts with 11 years of experience as a clinician and school social worker. She has supported people facing a wide variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, social skills development, Autism Spectrum Disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Rachel also spent four years working in a residential setting with individuals who have experienced physical, sexual, and emotional trauma.
Her primary interest is working with children and adolescents, helping them recognize triggers, build and practice coping strategies, incorporate mindfulness into daily routines, boost self-esteem and confidence, and strengthen communication skills. Rachel aims to create a non-judgmental, comfortable environment that guides young people and their families as they work through difficulties, and she emphasizes the central role of the therapeutic relationship in the healing process.
Rachel’s counseling style is warm and interactive, grounded in respect, sensitivity, and compassion and avoiding stigmatizing labels. She draws from multiple therapeutic approaches and tailors interventions to meet each person’s current needs. Together with clients she develops a treatment plan and works toward their individual goals.
Rachel also works alongside her certified therapy dog, Bauer, a 2-year-old Goldendoodle who often helps clients feel more at ease during sessions. Seeking change requires courage, and Rachel is committed to supporting and empowering those who are ready to take that first step.
For many common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adapting to life changes, online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person care. Research and clinical experience indicate that virtual treatment works well for these everyday mental health needs.
One major benefit of online therapy is flexibility. People can choose the mode of communication that fits their comfort level and schedule - video sessions, phone calls, live chat, or in-app messaging - making it simpler to integrate therapy into a busy life.
All participating therapists are licensed professionals, and clients have the option to change therapists if they are seeking a different therapeutic match. Online therapy offers a practical and adaptable route for accessing professional support when facing stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or significant life transitions.
