Modupe Awonuga, who may also be called Bukky by those who prefer that name, is an integrative psychotherapist and a registered member of the BACP - British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, practicing in the United Kingdom and adhering to the BACP Ethical Framework.
She draws on training across several therapeutic modalities and offers personalised support using psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive behavioural (CBT) approaches. Her academic qualifications include an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and additional diplomas in Therapeutic and Psychotherapeutic Counselling. Modupe has also completed specialist trauma-informed training and studies in cultural sensitivity in counselling.
With four years of clinical experience, Modupe began her counselling work after completing her Advanced Diploma and has undertaken placements with NHS Talking Therapy - formerly IAPT. She continues to volunteer with a mental health organisation and supports people dealing with relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, low motivation, self-esteem and confidence issues, depression, financial concerns, and coping with other mental and physical health diagnoses.
Alongside her private practice, Modupe acts as a mental health and wellbeing advocate, offering practical and emotional help by supporting clients to access services and express their views and wishes to organisations they are struggling with. She aims to work collaboratively, treating people with respect, sensitivity, and a non-judgemental attitude, and provides a safe space for clients to be themselves.
Modupe is a therapist of colour and a female therapist who can work with clients seeking a faith-informed or non-religious perspective, including Christian and non-religious clients, as well as gay, older, and more liberal outlooks. She maintains her professional standards through regular supervision, personal therapy, workshops, and seminars.
Memberships: British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; Association of Mental Health First Aiders.
Many people ask whether online therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
A major benefit is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that suits them best, choosing from video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to fit therapeutic support into a busy life.
Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals and therapists, and clients may change therapists at any time if they would prefer a different fit.
