Dr. Michael Mitchell is a licensed marriage and family therapist practicing in Georgia with three years of clinical experience. He works with adults and youth across a broad range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, addictions, LGBT issues, relationship difficulties, depression, family conflict, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, parenting challenges, anger management, self-esteem struggles, career difficulties, coaching needs, and compassion fatigue.
His practice is guided by a mission to provide humane, positive care that helps individuals, couples, and families move toward greater functioning when facing frustration, loss, pain, powerlessness, or diminished hope. He emphasizes practical growth and supports clients in finding workable solutions to persistent problems.
Dr. Mitchell’s approach integrates humanistic and brief solution-focused methods with cognitive-behavioral techniques, and he draws on cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic, and rational-emotive perspectives as appropriate. Treatment plans and session dialogue are tailored to each person’s unique circumstances, with an emphasis on breaking cycles of ineffective behavior and building stronger coping skills.
He regularly uses cognitive-behavioral exercises delivered with compassion to help clients develop everyday skills that can improve independence at home, school, or work, including for those whose needs relate to mental or physical disabilities or complex medical conditions.
Dr. Mitchell has experience helping clients address marital conflict, health- and age-related conditions, anxiety, depression and grief, sexual concerns, substance use issues, and parenting and family-related problems. He has also assisted people with career adjustments, work-related stress, occupational concerns, grief, trauma, and emotional abuse.
Known for a warm, interactive counseling style, Dr. Mitchell aims to create a collaborative environment in which clients can pursue meaningful change. He recognizes the courage it takes to seek a more fulfilling life and stands ready to support and empower those who choose to begin that work.
