Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Mental Health Therapist for over 20 years. I earned my masters in social work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002. Since I live in a rural area with little access to mental health services; I have had the opportunity to work with all populations. I have been the most effective in assisting those who experience depression, anxiety (including related diagnoses like OCD and sleep disorders) , and relationship problems (unhealthy and abusive relationships, parenting, and couples counseling). I have worked in all levels of care from psychiatric inpatient, to group homes, crisis centers, and outpatient counseling. A large portion of my work has been in the child welfare system and juvenile system. I have worked with abused and neglected children as well as their parents. I have many military veterans in my life. My family has navigated the VA disability process and I have many ideas to share in order to help clients involved with the VA. I practice through the lens of trauma-informed care and consider the whole person; not just individual symptoms. My approach is eclectic and client-driven. I will assist you in formulating a treatment plan that will be ever adapting to your current needs.
My friends describe me as “The most approachable person in the room.” I know how hard is it to seek support and I never make people feel judged or minimize their experiences. Helping people help themselves is my passion. I like the Better Help platform because people can often feel stuck and unable to take the multiple steps needed to seek counseling in a traditional office setting. Online counseling removes many of the barriers that keep people from seeking support. I have had anxious clients who started out with messaging and slowly moved to phone and video as they felt more comfortable.
I have been with Better Help for 4 years. I started 1/2020 as the pandemic was starting up and I had the opportunity to work with clients all over the world and see how they were being affected by the illness and local rules and regulations meant to mitigate the spread. I still have three of those clients who started in 2020. It has been very nice to see their progress over a long period of time.
I am looking forward to assisting you in meeting your potential and helping improve your daily quality of life! You have taken the first step. Let’s get started.

Mary Jo Greenwood is a licensed clinical social worker practicing in Wyoming with 21 years of experience in mental health care. She earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002 and holds clinical social work licensure in both Wyoming and Nevada. Living and working in a rural area with limited access to mental health services, she has had opportunities to work with people across the lifespan and with diverse needs.
Her clinical experience spans psychiatric inpatient settings, group homes, crisis centers, and outpatient counseling. A significant portion of her career has involved work in the child welfare and juvenile systems, supporting abused and neglected children as well as their parents. She has also been involved with many military veterans through personal connections, and her family’s navigation of the VA disability process has informed practical ideas she shares with clients who are involved with the VA.
Mary Jo has been particularly effective working with depression, anxiety (including related conditions such as OCD and sleep disorders), and relationship concerns including unhealthy or abusive relationships, parenting challenges, and couples counseling. She practices through a trauma-informed lens and attends to the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. Her therapeutic approach is eclectic and guided by each client’s needs; she works collaboratively to develop treatment plans that evolve as those needs change.
Her friends describe her as ‘The most approachable person in the room,’ and she strives to create a nonjudgmental environment where people feel heard and not minimized. Helping people help themselves is central to her work. Mary Jo began offering online counseling through a remote platform in January 2020 and has continued that work since then, maintaining long-term relationships with some clients who started during that time.
She looks forward to assisting clients in meeting their potential and improving day-to-day quality of life, and welcomes the opportunity to begin that process with new clients.
Many people wonder whether meeting with a therapist online can really help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and major life transitions, online therapy has been shown to be comparable in effectiveness to traditional in-person sessions.
One of the primary benefits is flexibility – clients can choose the mode of connection that feels most comfortable, whether that is a video call, a phone conversation, live chat, or in-app messaging. This variety makes it easier to access care without rearranging daily responsibilities.
Licensed professionals provide the care, and clients have the option to change therapists if they prefer a different therapeutic fit. For many people, the convenience and adaptability of online therapy reduce barriers to getting support and make it simpler to engage consistently in treatment.
