Mary Harrington is a UK qualified Therapeutic Counsellor who supports people taking the first steps toward a more fulfilling and happier life. With five years of professional therapy experience and a specialism in CBT and EMDR, she works from an integrative perspective, drawing on Person-Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to suit each person’s unique needs.
Mary has helped clients address a wide range of difficulties including stress, anxiety, trauma, domestic abuse, life changes, depression, low motivation, weight concerns, phobias, addiction, low self-esteem and confidence issues. Her manner is non-judgmental and she aims to offer respect, sensitivity and compassion in the therapeutic relationship.
In addition to her counselling practice, Mary brings twenty years of experience working with and supporting young people with ADHD and autism, which informs her understanding of issues related to neurodiversity. She offers sessions only on Fridays and checks messages several times a day, aiming to reply between 6 and 8 pm Monday to Friday. On weekends she may be resting, relaxing, or undertaking training, but she will try to respond on the same day and does not intend to ignore enquiries.
For many everyday concerns - including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and major life transitions - online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person sessions. Research and practice indicate that common issues respond well to remote treatment when delivered by trained professionals.
A key benefit is flexibility: people can choose the format that suits them best, whether that is video calls, phone appointments, live chat or in-app messaging. This adaptability makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life and to access support from different locations.
Therapy delivered online is provided by licensed professionals, and if someone feels a different fit would be better they can change therapists at any time. Overall, online therapy offers a practical and effective option for many people seeking support.
