Laurie Coppa

Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships

About

My name is Laurie and I am a licensed clinical social worker in New York State. I have been very fortunate to have worked in a variety of settings , in my 20 years in the field, which has allowed me to see how complicated life can become and how wonderful. I have worked on an inpatient psychiatric unit, hospital medical units, Neonatal Intensive Care units, I have worked with adolescents in residential care and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, families with end of life stressors and just folks who need a friendly ear. I am familiar with the agency systems that although they are meant to help, sometimes add to the confusion. I am an interactive therapist, who also demonstrates empathy and caring while working to empower you to create the life you deserve. I am solution focused and yet compassionate. I feel that the greatest gift we can all receive, is to be heard, to be able to identify our deepest feelings and to express those feelings without fear of judgement; to not feel invisible; to feel like we matter. I believe that ultimately, we know what we need in order to make a better life for ourselves but I also know obstacles will jump in and try to prevent that happiness. This is when we all may simply need some need some outside guidance for the journey . And that is how I see this therapeutic relationship; an opportunity to uncover the obstacles that get in your way of living a beautiful life. So I will frequently return to the concept of Self Love , why it is vitally important and how we can get there. Don’t let that scare you! But it is the key. So, I will be your mirror. Here to reflect back to you what you may already know and perhaps to shine a light on something new you never thought of before. I tend to speak in very plain language, choosing to describe and explore feelings rather than label them. I am more concerned that we can communicate clearly and you feel you have been heard. If this kind of team play interests you , let have a chat.
And with that said, the development of that team relationship is of the utmost importance. Professionally, I feel that in order to make changes in old patterns, one must commit to the process. It is important that if you wish to change some of the suffering you have in your life, you will need to make your session times a priority. Scheduling a session weekly or bi weekly is ideal. It is the interaction between therapist and client that is most beneficial , which is why I feel that the most effective way to conduct a session is by either video or phone with a live chat being the last choice. Dealing with issues and concerns in the moment is what this work is about. A back and forth dialogue is so necessary for you to get a sense of who I am and for me to learn more about you! Yes, it can be intimidating but terrific as well. I hope you take the plunge and make a really bold leap right now!! Let’s work together.

About

Laurie Coppa is a licensed clinical social worker based in New York with 24 years of clinical experience. Her credential as a licensed clinical social worker means she is qualified to provide clinical psychotherapy in New York State.

She works with people facing stress, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, self-esteem concerns, depression, family conflicts, grief, parenting difficulties, career challenges, coping with life changes, and compassion fatigue. Her career has included roles on an inpatient psychiatric unit, hospital medical units, Neonatal Intensive Care units, work with adolescents in residential care, support for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, assistance for families experiencing end-of-life stressors, and time spent with individuals who simply need a compassionate listener.

That variety of settings has given Laurie insight into how agency systems – which are meant to help – can sometimes add to the confusion people already feel. She practices in an interactive, solution-focused way while remaining compassionate, demonstrating empathy and working to empower clients to create the life they deserve. Laurie often returns to the concept of self-love, helping clients learn to identify and express deep feelings without fear of judgment so they do not feel invisible and can feel that they matter.

She aims to be a reflective presence – a mirror that can highlight what clients may already know and point to new perspectives they had not considered. Laurie prefers plain language, choosing to describe and explore feelings rather than label them, and places high value on clear communication so clients feel heard. She believes meaningful change requires commitment to the process, and recommends making session times a priority, with weekly or biweekly scheduling ideal. For interactive work she finds video or phone sessions most effective, with live chat as a last choice. Laurie welcomes the chance to work together and encourages taking that first step toward change.

Is Online Therapy the Right Step Toward Better Mental Health?

Many people wonder whether online therapy can make a real difference. For common concerns – such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes – online therapy has been shown to be as effective as traditional in-person sessions for most people.

One major advantage is flexibility. Clients can connect in the way that fits them best – via video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging – which makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.

Each therapist involved is a licensed professional, and if a different match is desired it is possible to switch providers. The convenience and adaptability of online sessions allow many people to access consistent, interactive care that suits their schedule and communication style.
