Laura West trained and practised as a Registered General Nurse for 17 years within the NHS, working across two hospitals. During her nursing career she moved into specialist roles to offer more emotional and psychological support to patients and their families, most recently serving as a Macmillan Breast Cancer Specialist Practitioner and supporting people through their individual treatment journeys.
Her experience in that specialist nursing role deepened an interest in counselling and psychotherapy, leading her to complete a diploma in Psychotherapy & Counselling and to qualify as an accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor. She now works with integrated therapeutic models, combining qualifications in psychodynamic concepts with the humanistic and person-centred approaches that were reinforced through her clinical practice.
With 19 years of professional experience, Laura supports people facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, helping them navigate toward personal goals of positive and effective change and improved wellbeing. She aims to create a safe therapeutic environment that promotes the wellbeing of every client and is a member of the National Counselling Society.
Laura has experience working with stress, anxiety, depression, grief and varied forms of loss, and with issues related to self-confidence and self-esteem. She regards seeking professional help as a sign of strength and courage and is available to support an individual’s journey toward a more fulfilling and enriched life.
Many people ask whether online therapy truly helps. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or adjusting to life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One of the main benefits is flexibility - clients can connect in the way that feels most comfortable, whether by video call, phone session, live chat, or in-app messaging. This range of options makes it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
All therapists offering online work are licensed professionals, and if a different therapeutic fit is needed it is possible to switch to another therapist. Online therapy can be a practical, accessible way to get consistent support while working toward meaningful change.
