Karen Richardson is a licensed marriage and family therapist with 24 years of experience in behavioral health. She has provided care to children, teens, and adults across inpatient and outpatient settings, offering individual, family, and group therapy through community mental health centers and in-home visits.
Her work also includes service in criminal detention and family court contexts, and participation in an intensive outpatient program treating dual diagnosis clients - those managing both substance use and mental health needs. This range of settings has contributed to a broad clinical background in grief, trauma, mood stability, and the symptomology and treatment of mental illness.
Richardson holds a bachelor’s degree from Furman University, a master’s degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a post-master’s certificate in marriage and family therapy from the University of Louisville. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist in South Carolina and Florida.
She has specialized expertise in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chemical dependency, child and parenting concerns, and matters related to divorce. Upon request, she can also address therapeutic issues from a Christian foundation.
Many people wonder whether online therapy can really make a difference. For common concerns - such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or navigating life changes - online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person sessions.
One key benefit is flexibility. Individuals can connect with therapists in the way that feels most comfortable - via video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or in-app messaging. That variety of options can make it easier to fit therapy into a busy life.
These services are delivered by licensed professionals, and clients are able to change therapists at any time if they would like a different fit.
