Holistic Jungian therapist specializing in trauma and relationships
I am a Counseling Psychologist with over 10 years experience providing therapy services. I have worked extensively with clients on issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma and the impact of growing up in an unsafe environment, family conflict, and a host of other problems. I have a penchant for working with young adults as most of my work has taken place on college campuses, but I have also conducted therapy in substance abuse treatment facilities and in domestic violence centers. I have also worked and lived abroad, and have an understanding of acculturation concerns and culture shock.
I practice therapy from a collaborative standpoint, where my responsibility is to create a atmosphere of trust and acceptance whereby you can feel comfortable talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly. I strive to truly understand each person’s unique circumstances, including how they got there and where they want to go, I enjoy the metaphor that, for therapy, the client drives the car while I sit in the passenger seat. You direct the session and I navigate where I think we can go to find a better way.
I respect all my client’s and their decision to open up to me or anyone else. If we work together, I hope I am able to help, and if not, point you in the right direction.
Cheers,
James

Dr. James Arnett is a counseling psychologist licensed to practice in Tennessee, holding state licensure as TN Psychologist 3780. He brings seven years of clinical experience to his work with individuals facing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict and a range of other concerns.
He has worked extensively with clients dealing with the effects of growing up in unsafe environments, and he has significant experience supporting young adults – much of his work has taken place on college campuses. He has also provided therapy in substance abuse treatment facilities and domestic violence centers.
Having worked and lived abroad, Dr. Arnett understands acculturation concerns and culture shock and incorporates that perspective when it is relevant to a client’s situation. His approach to therapy is collaborative; he aims to create an atmosphere of trust and acceptance where clients can speak openly about what is helpful and what is difficult.
Dr. Arnett likens the therapeutic relationship to a journey in which the client drives and he serves as a guide in the passenger seat – the client directs the session and Dr. Arnett helps navigate toward clearer pathways and practical strategies. He respects each person’s choice to seek support and aims either to help or to point people in the right direction when another resource would be a better fit.
Many people ask whether virtual therapy can truly help. For common concerns such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or navigating life changes, online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as traditional in-person care.
One of the main benefits is flexibility – clients can choose the connection method that works best for them, whether that is video calls, phone sessions, live chat or in-app messaging. That makes it easier to incorporate therapy into busy schedules and everyday life.
Licensed professionals provide online therapy, and if a different therapeutic fit is needed a client can switch providers. For many individuals, remote therapy offers an accessible and practical way to pursue support for everyday mental health concerns.
